The New Zealand Herald has an article about Alice Newton, the 8-year-old daughter of Nigel Newton, the chairman of Bloomsbury. He talks about how she convinced him to publish the book. Quote:
Her agent, Christopher Little, called at Bloomsbury Publishing's cramped offices in Soho Square and gave Newton a sample to read. He took it home but, instead of settling down with it himself, handed it to Alice, then eight years old.
"She came down from her room an hour later glowing," Newton recalls, "saying, 'Dad, this is so much better than anything else.'
"She nagged and nagged me in the following months, wanting to see what came next."
The article also notes that the first Potter book is on its way to becoming the world's best-selling novel of all time.

You go girl!!  If she was 8 years old at that time, then I guess she's a teenager now for sure, if not older. And now look where we are? About 11 days from getting the 6th precious book in our eager hands.

Well, I among others, I am glad she liked the book. Without her stamp of approval where would we be? I find it hard to think of my world without HP in it. I spend a huge amount of my free time so I am grateful she wanted to read more of the story.

Well she was right by thinking it was better than anything else, lol. If only she'd know back then what would come from all of this. She probably feels special since she helped the series get published, lol. I know I would. Thanks for convincing your dad! It kind of reminds me how Christopher Columbus's daughter nagged him to make the Harry Potter movies.
