| | | The demise of 'Harry Potter'? CNN Money has an article which speculates over the demise of Harry Potter; whether, as the series draws to an end, the book will fade from memory or whether it'll become an all-time classic. Quote:
"I'm even more adamant about this point of view today than I was three years ago," said Martin Lindstrom, an independent global branding consultant and author of "Brand Child." "Harry Potter is headline news today because of the media blitz surrounding the new book. Six weeks later, you won't hear anything."
Said Lindstrom, "When we asked kids whether they thought Harry Potter was a fading phenomenon, 69 percent said they did. I think that percentage today is probably closer to 80 percent.
"The fact is that the main concept of Harry Potter is this idea of undiscovered secrecy," he added.
"A few years from now, people will know Harry Potter because it became a huge business phenomenon in such a short period of time and not for the great story that it was," Lindstrom said.
Quote:
Robert Passikoff, branding consultant with Brand Keys Consulting, said the demise of the Harry Potter brand was something that was "never going to happen.
"The Potter series has longevity," Passikoff said. "Whether or not there is life for the brand after the seventh book is not even an issue. In the same way that people go to buy Mary Poppins books, 30 years from now you will find Harry Potter on bookshelves."
"This brand resonates with consumers of all ages," Passikoff said. "It's a brand that is well-differentiated and unique. J.K. Rowlings has been very stringent with how the brand is developed. I think it's a very well-managed brand."

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

I know Harry Potter for the "great story" that it is, who cares what other people think, whether it fades way, as long as we remember it ourselves. Any way, dont books become "all time classics" by parents handing down the love for it for generations and generations? How is HP going to be imprinted into the generations of children after us without us pressing it on them? And as for that, i dont think we'll be showing little bar charts with business sales of HP to date to our children before bedtime.

The only sure thing that will keep the books alive thirty years from now is the fans today introducing it to new generations. No, you probably won't find Harry Potter sleeping bags or bookbags or lunchboxes crowding Wal*Mart shelves, but how often do you find Mary Poppins merchandise like that? The fact of the matter is that Marry Poppins is a popular classic today because adults have continued to introduce the books to children.

harry potter will be classic and legend of course! no doubt about that! too many people in the world love harry it will live on in younger generations for example my little niece is 5 years old she didnt really like hp at first but then i began reading to her the books and watching the movies with her and she likes hp now! harry potter will never die out it will always be long lasting! Its apart of especially this generation we will always remember the long waits in between books and movies and when we tell our own kids about that they will want to read the books just to see what all the fuss was about!

The fact is I think, I don't think Harry Potter will ever fade away. The story itself is awesome, and then there's the fact that the books have made so much money. Won't Scholastic keep trying to make the story appeal to new audiences and try to make more sales?
Harry won't fade away. He will probably live on like The Chronicles of Narnia and any Roald Dahl children's book. Everybody here at Snitchseeker will probably agree that he's just too big of a giant to fade away. Plus the characters are unforgettable.

Well it makes somewhat sense*gasps all round*, if I were not a HP fanatic. I think that the only people who would see things that way in the future are those who aren't really fans, but maybe just read them, you know just for the sake of having read the HP books.
Perhaps they may also be referring to the fact that, when the 7th book comes out, the era will end. I've been thinking about this a lot, and I have realised that I don't want the 7th HP book to come out.*hides in a well-fortified tower from the other fans who think she's crazy*. Well think about, when the 7th book will come out, we'll know how it ends, and that's that. Then, slowly, one by one, the members on HP fansites will start dwindling, the websites will unfortunately close, and Harry Potter, as a multi-click, Internet-phenomenon(let's call it), will end.
Harry Potter will always be in my heart, and I look forward to the future words, when I'll be able to tell future generations, "I was a teenager when I started reading the Harry Potter books. I used to go on HP websites, and check out all the HP news like a geek, and share in my ideas and have fun with others like me."
It will always be a legend to us, but like many things which have already come and gone, even if it will be forever remembered by the fans, it will not remain at the height that it once cherished.
Well, that was a bit lengthy, but I hope it made sense to all of you.

| Of course the book will not fade from memory. I mean just because the series ends doesnt mean people are going to stop being Harry Potter fans. Even though we are all excitedly waiting for the new book to come out doesn't mean we dont pick up and read the older ones. And the books will always be there for people who want to read them. Also the fact that they have been made into multi-million pound movies shows that there will be a vast memory of them in picture. People may look back on Harry Potter books in 30 years times and say they were a literary gem and say books today are a load of crap. Older people I suggest. *shudders* I bet I'm going to be like that. There is also the fact that book series' like chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings were completed decades ago and there are still fans and fandoms for them. I think that Pottermania will still be around for decades after the series has ended. I'll make sure of it as long as I'm around. |

lol..this is funny, cos earlier today in literature class, where we're doing shakespeare's antony and cleopatra, with every other line, i kept relating it back to tiny facts in harry potter. haha. i think,sub-consciously, i've memorized all the books by reading them so many times. and i know that in the years and years to come,i'll still be a fan.

I think that Harry Potter will continue to thrive for a long time, I just think a lot of the thrill, such as awaiting new books, will be gone which inturn will reduce the number of fans.

I mean with how many lives it has effected and all. I don't think it will be forgotten, but I'm not sure if it'll become a classic. It could though. I mean it definitely has the right qualities to become a classic. I hope it does That would be really cool.

Harry Potter is just losing alot of little kid fans, because the books are becoming more mature. Harry Potter is bigger now then it ever was. The HBP seems to be doing good in presales. Harry Potter fans aren't all kids. I think most of the fans now are over 15.

I'm guessing Harry Potter will remain with those books like The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia, some people read them before the movies and glam and some will continue to do so after, probably not as many of course but who knows. It was kinda funny I started reading the LOTR books when I was in 4th grade and my dad gave them to me almost no one knew what I was talking about, now after the movies its a major fab, legend, whatever you want to call it

| I don't know
I think that Harry Potter will become a Legend because it is one of the most famous stories on earth! Plus with the films... But this book is are generation and maybe the one after. Nothing says it will continue... Because Harry Potter gets even more famous with the new books each time they come out; with all the exitment and publicity it just grows! But when it will be over (books and films) really I don't know whats going to happen, even though I really hope it will be a Legend!!!
