| | | Spanish HBP translation site shut down
A Potter fan from Argentina has had their website shut down after translating ' Half-Blood Prince' into Spanish and hosting it online.
The culprit, who called themself 'The Translator Prince', was quoted as saying that the website "will make dreams come true for fanatics who cannot read in English."

| Well it's not surprising that the person got in trouble. But then again I wonder is it still wrong to post scripts of movies on websites? Since in a way it's kinda the same thing. |

| Neither do I. Besides, I didnīt think it was a bad thing to do. Just something to help your fellow-Spanish-speaking-Potter-fans to get to read the book before they get totally crazy ... |

| Just think most of us have been blessed with being able to read the book right after it came out. think, though, some families might not be able to spend all that money on a book. imagine if you had to wait two or so more years for the book to come out, but needed every little amount of cash for something more important. I would have gotten permission then done it so it would be legal. Most of us have read it already haven't we? it has to be hard not to be able to read something that you've been waiting a looong time for and have it out but still not be able to read it. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Marcella Riddle Graduated | Different translators take different amounts of time I suppose dependant on their schedules and how much is involved in translating. Plus they're all printed by separate publishers who have separate rules. Etc ... |

| I kind of feel bad for them, in a way. All that work of translating the entire book so that fans could read it... But it takes away book sales, and they shouldn't have done it in the first place. |

Imagine that Harry Potter is in Spanish, and you have to wait 6 months to get it in your language...wouldn't you translate it though it is illegal? |

| I feel sorry for them. I'm not a person who speaks another language, but I do live in Australia. How is this relevant? Over here, we have to wait at least 6 months, for things like movies and the such. Sometimes we don't even get it at all. Which is why we all resort to pirated stuff here. We can get it much quicker if it's pirated, than waiting for legitimate copies. Of course there's all that about how you should be patient and stuff, but after a while, you get frustrated at always having to wait forever for everything.
I personally believe that this person didn't should've gotten into trouble. Yes, he posted a copy of HBP online, but he took the time to translate it. It's only been about a month since HBP came out, and somebody has translated it into Spanish. Then why does it take forever for authorised people to translate it? Why does everything legal take forever, when pirate copies are done in a day?
I know that if I spoke a different language, but I also understood English, I would translate it even though it was illegal. The honest people would buy a copy of the legitimate translation when it comes out, but my translation would be to... How would I say, calm them down till the legitimate translation came out? |
