An 10-year-old autistic boy won a signed copy of
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows from local school officials in Edinburgh. Charlie Saunders was given the Jack Anderson award from for his courage and determination in battling to overcome social skills issues as a result of having Asperger’s syndrome.
According to his mother, Charlie was "stunned" to receive the book signed by J.K. Rowling.
Quote:
Charlie was nominated for this award by his peers and that means so much because his condition gives him difficulties with social skills, and he has managed to overcome those.
He was really nervous before the meeting, understandably, but he's a huge Harry Potter fan so I think the book is something he will treasure.
Apparently Charlie isn’t the only one who feels that way. Lord Provost George Grubb, who presented the award to Charlie, noted that several school officials were also eyeing the prized book.
Quote:
I think quite a few of the councillors here today would like to take that home.
The Jack Anderson award was established in memory of a student who was hit and killed by a speeding car while walking home from school.
