| | |  Seattle Public Library hosts Harry Potter vs. Twilight debate
The Seattle Public Library in Washington recently hosted a debate between Harry Potter and Twilight fans, to determine which series is the better work of fiction, which was attended by hundreds of young readers. The event was filmed by Brent Hartinger - highlights can be viewed below.
Questions posed include; "Why do these books deserve such popularity?" and "What do these books say about prejudice in society?"

I could rant about this for a looong time about how I think Harry Potter wins by FAR. But I shall just sum it up for youuz;
Twilight is just for girls who think that there is an 'Edward' out there waiting for them, where to me, Edward is one of the dullest and most boring characters I have ever read about. Everyone is too perfect. Except Bella who is a hurrendous representation of women.

THIS MAKES no SENSE! The clear winner is Harry Potter. Why even waste the time trying to debate?! This comparison really annoys me. Why wouldn't they debate on something that actually makes sense like Harry Potter vs. Lotr or Narnia vs. His Dark Materials. I mean Seriously Seattle Library...get it together!! But the Harry Potter side did a BRILLIANT job defending it and clearly the audience are Harry Potter fans too.

What!? Understatement of the century.
Harry Potter is the best selling fictional book in history! That is, unless you're an atheist and see the bible as fictional.
You can't compare the two. The books of Harry Potter create a world Twilight doesn't come close to. I bet Stephanie Meyer would probably admit that, too. What a daft debate!

I agree 100%! Team potter will always win! It's been around sooo much longer than twilight, so people know how good the HP series is! Any girl who reads twilight and then believes that there is an Edward waiting for them, should get a hobby(like reading HP) and not worry about an Edward finding them(I'd be freaked out if a vampire was looking for me!). I have read both series and obviously prefer HP over Twilight. The HP books are well-written and are stuffed with important information on every page. The Twilight series can be amusing but seem to drag on forever. Plus, I think one very important distinction is that the HP books attract people from every age group and gender, while Twilight is mostly for tween and young teen girls.

Yay! =D I knew Harry Potter would win! How could it not? I'm a huge fan of Twilight, don't get me wrong, the books are wonderful. But, Harry Potter is just...better. Sorry. And the poor Twilight panel was not that good either. Harry Potter panel kicked booty though!!! I do wish this debate would go away though. They don't need to be compared because they are incomparable. The end. =D
