| | | Schools in the UK to be more like Hogwarts - Summary:
The British government wants to turn more schools like Hogwarts in the next 5 years Article:
Thanks to Harrypotterspage Quote: In their five-year plan they want all schools to have houses like Gryffindor and Slytherin and uniforms too, although probably not robes.*
At the moment a fifth of schools don't have uniforms and the government thinks introducing them might improve schools.*
There are ideas to improve all types of schools, but it's secondary schools that need the most improving.* Quote: Other ideas to make schools better include helping really good ones get bigger so they can bring in more pupils. Quote: It's hoped houses will help pupils settle into really big schools because they'll make them seem a little bit smaller, and uniforms will make them more proud of where they go.*
Another thing the government think is very important is making it easier to move up from primary school to secondary school.* Newsround |

Next pigs will fly. Labour have promised school improvements for years now. I'll believe it when I see it.
The majority of Welsh Sceondary schools do have uniforms and houses, but that's probably because we're a different country with a different assembly to England.
Meh, I find it amusing that they're abolishing GCSE's or thinking of doing it after I've just done them. Nice people.

Yeah it did sound a little over the top for something of the government to do. But hey it makes an interesting read.

| Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs schools in scotland dont have to wear uniforms but they are now trying to implement them. we have house point systems but they arent a big deal.
just like wales Scotland has its own parlement but we are still being told what to to with our schools by England. they should just comcentrate ont here owns schools or try and improve them all.
becasue when tye change anything it is only foe England or sometimes wales but never for Scotland,
most schools have house points.

It is interesting but they've said this so many times over the past few years that they may aswell turn their ideals into a fantasy novel.
Like Karen said, Scotland runs itself too, especially it's schools, so this will probably only apply to England, as with the top-up fees, all new introductory things are carried out in England first and then our respective countries decide whether they want to participate too.
Also my school is run by the church, so they have more of a say so in it, which makes the government's plans harder again. And private schools will just do their own thing too.

What a load of rubbish lol... Most schools do have uniforms, and that just gives the kids something to rebel against. Ours used to have shirts and ties etc, everyone hated it. So they bring in sweatshirts/t-shirts instead, and people suddenly want the shirts and ties. Bigger schools just mean overcrowding, and as for houses, I don't think they really give kids more pride - I can't remember which house I was even in at my school, hell, I can only remember what 2 of them were! LOL

Yeah modern day uniforms aren't ties and shirts. We had polo shirts and normal jumpers and then whatever trousers we wished more or less.

| Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs the school i used to go to my cousins are both in and they have decided that from after the summer breeak (Scottish kids on summer holliday for a week now) they have to were uniform only black or navy trousers black navy cardigans or jumpers no logos. siirts or ties or school tops which a shirt must be worn underneeth.
also no black traneres must be school shoes.
what they forget it that to get the things with the school logo on is actualy more expensive to some parents i mean if i was still in school i know for a fact my mum couldnt afford to send me to scholl in uniform

Our uniform did have logos on it and come to think of it, they were expensive; a tenner per tshirt and jumper, separately.

Gretta J. Amerie Magical Education | Typo Mistress That is awesome. I always wanted to build a school in america that is just like hogwarts. That is really cool and sweet that they actually have a school that is going to be like Hogwarts. I would love to go there yet people would laugh at me because I don't have an accent and they do (not fair) :/ (lol) but any ways. I think that is cool. But, please bring the magic to America. Vote for Snape as the Half Blood Prince. |

I had to wear a uniform but we could only buy ours from the school and it was soo expensive. Thank god i left!! But my little brother who's started going there now has to wear a tie shirt and blazer!!! I don't think uniforms make schools a better place ,its the teachers and students that do that. We didnt have houses as such but we had forms named after trees (my school was called two trees don't ask) and we all competed with each other . To be in a good form kinda gave me a sense of pride but there were some who took pride in being the worst. Either way i do not think these sorts of changes will do much to improve the school system they probably won't even happen ,as with most of the government promises and changes.

I wear a school uniform... My school doesn't have houses (i used to though) but we have three different buildings - one for years 7, 8 & 9 one for 10 and 11 and a six form house. I doubt the plans will actually go ahead... lol
I hate having uniforms though...

wow if schools really do turn out to be like Hogwarts, it would seem so much more interesting. As brilliant as it sounds, it's kind of odd for a Government to be saying that........

I agree with Marcella: When Pigs Fly. That's how I always felt about American schooling. It would be awesome to have a school like Hogwarts and I would go to college right now to be a teacher there!! But, *sigh*, alas we have horrible progress for our school systems. But I can't agree on uniforms, I never saw the point in taking away individuality, even if for the sake of keeping kids in order. But I wouldn't have minded wearing robes to school!

Uniforms are the bunk. House points may have some meaning. But what realy makes Hogwarts wonderfull is that students are learning something they can see the meaning of.
In one of mah fics Ah invented Utility Cadets, early teens who work summers at the water, wastewater or electric plants. Grunt work, granted. But they can see the results of their work.
