| | |  Scholastic interviews U.S. Harry Potter fans nationwide
A couple weeks ago we told you that J.K. Rowling would be judging fan interviews. Here's a little more information about that.
I went down to the Harry Potter store Whimsic Alley on Sunday so my daughter and her friend could videotape their responses to several Harry Potter-related questions, more than half concerning Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The interviews were conducted by Scholastic, and more will take place throughout the country. They will choose the best responses and edit them together into one video, which will then be sent to Rowling for her approval.
The video is being created to promote the Harry Potter series to young, new readers and is part of Scholastic's publicity push for the 10th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
The video is expected to be online in a couple of months on various websites, including Scholastic, MSN, Whimsic Alley and others yet to be determined. | |

I agree that HP needs promotion. Ten years ago the first book came out. And ten years ago i was childless. Now, i have a 3rd grader who is doing "book reports" in school on her favorite HP book, but that is because I promote HP to my kids. Sure the movies help, but they have seen me reading the books and, ahem, buying way too much paraphenalia....but it makes them interested. So to promote the HP books to the newer generation is brilliant. Otherwise, even classic books fall to the wayside when newer ones come out. Like the best sellers by Rick Riordan for kids is superhot right now,,,,and will be made into movies, i have no doubt....Gradually HP will fade, if only a little, as new, equally good (but different) books of the fantasy genre come onto the scene. | |

We shop at Whimsic Alley regularly. It's the most incredible Harry Potter store ever! It is at 2717 1/2 Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica, California. When we can't drive there (we live far away), we shop on their website -- Whimsic Alley. They have the best selection of Harry Potter items anywhere -- and great prices, too! My daughter just bought a Slytherin robe with matching cardigan sweater and tie for Portus this summer. Check it out! | |
