[img]http://www.snitchseeker.com/images/news/hedwig_80.jpg' align='middle'> It's a very 'Harry' White House Christmas -

Summary:
First lady Laura Bush has decorated the White House for Christmas this year with a little Potter flair. The boy wizard is just one literary character featured in the theme of children's stories "that have captured our hearts and shaped American culture."

Article:

First lady Laura Bush has decorated the White House for Christmas this year with a little Potter flair. The boy wizard is just one literary character featured in the theme of children's stories "that have captured our hearts and shaped American culture."

From the official White House holiday site:

Since stories bring us together, we've brought some favorite children's storybook characters to the White House to celebrate the holidays. Our thanks to the Executive Residence staff members who recreated the characters. And special thanks to the authors and illustrators who have given us the stories we celebrate.

"I picked most of the books, since I'm a former librarian and lifelong reader," said Bush of the decorations. "So I picked books that were important to me as a child, or that I liked to read to children. That was fun."

While giving a tour of the White House, Bush showed off the holiday trimmings to the press, ending with: "Finally, our newest huge bestseller, Harry Potter, which are the books I read this summer," she added. "I read all five of the Harry Potter books. I loved reading those."

Thanks to HPANA member The One Who Must Be Named for sending in the pictures.

How pathetic is that? I hate Harry Potter Crackers and Christmas decorations. It's silly becuase it has nothing to do with the birth of christ. That's what christmas is meant to be about, not Father Christmas, Harry Potter or Snowmen.

Hehehe. Cool! I couldn't get the pictures to load. A shame. I want to see the pictures! Oh well.

I do agree that Christmas is becoming too commercial. It's not about decorations, it's about Christ! Decorations do make it a bit nicer, though.

You may also want to note that Harry Potter (and friends) are all Christians. Yep, there's proof in the books. Why else would they cellebrate Christmas? Hmmmm?

Harry doesn't look good in those decorations; I liked the castle though.

Christmas has become a commercial holiday for the most part. People during the season are more concerned with what gifts they are getting as opposed to being with friends and family.

I must admit that harry Potter isn't what Christmas is all about, but why shouldn't people deocrate with him, it's just as off- Christ as stockings and candy canes.

Well of corse the HP decorations have nothing to do with the birth of Christ but in reality neather does a Christmas tree so even if you do put HP decorations on a Christmas tree it doesnt matter much Christmas has noting to with all the marketing going on.

personaly i think its cool that the 1st lady keeps up with current things like the HP books so cool for her and us
