 Rumor: Mira Nair to direct OotP - Summary:
Rumour..... Article:
Acclaimed independent film director Mira Nair has been invited to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, according to Brazilian entertainment site Cinema em Cena. Quote: However, when contacted by HPANA, an intern at Nair's offices in New York said she wasn't aware of any such announcement, so this is definitely to be considered a rumor. It's also very unlikely that a script has even been written (or started) for the fifth Potter film, and most directors like to know what they're getting into before accepting.
It's also probably just a rumor because no script has been written; Kloves is yet to decide whether he wants to write it or work on his own project. As the article points out, directors don't get hired until a script is written and none of the cast have been signed on for OoP yet.

I think this is total, unequival, unfounded rumor. And a bad one at that! What a ludicrous time to start it! You'd have thought they'd wait until an actual script was done so that the rumor might actually convince some people.

Agreed this is a bad rumor. GoF isn't even in the can yet and these rumors have already started. I do think that if the trio is to the fifth movie then things will move quickly to begin filming next year. I hope they do the fifth film because seeing anyone play Ron, Hermione, Dan even Draco would be a crime. Those actors will be forever in my mind as those characters. When I read the books my mind sees Daniel doing thing Harry does as well as the others. I don't think they can be replaced. It would be like having someone other than Ian McKellan play Gandalf in the movie, The Hobbit or replacing Hugh Jackson as Wolvevine in X-Men.

I read this report yesterday on Movie City News, and I don't think it's that bad of a rumor. Plenty of times directors are attached to a project before it has a script, and in this case she has the book to look over and decide if it's something she's interested in. What's more, just because they're filming GoF doesn't mean that it's the only HP movie they're focusing on. Before you can shoot a film, you need months of preparation and the director is in charge of all that - they're usually hired before anyone else. I don't think Mira will be given the job, because she doesn't have experience with big budgets, but I think we will be learning who the director is sooner than you think.

That's fair enough but it isn't just months before the project, we're talking years ^^
What's even more silly is that Mira hasn't even been asked, she doesn't even know about this, according to the sources!
I don't think she'll get it. It's far more likely that Alfonso will come back or else Alan Rickman and Kenneth Branagh will go for the job again.
Emma Thompson should script it. After all, Kloves isn't that commited if he's considering not doing OotP and working on his own project instead with the money he's made from sabotaging the first three books/films.

That seems pretty accurate to me.
As a side note to all who don't know, Emma Thompson plays Trelawney in the films but she won a Golden Globe in '98/'99 for scripting "Sense and Sensibility" a film version of the Jane Austen classic. It won many BAFTA's AND is one of JK's favourite films!

This is probably just a rumor about her doing OotP but her films so far look good.
I just looked up Mira Nair and she did a film I saw a couple of years ago on HBO called "Hysterical Blindness" with Uma Thurman. It was sad but good.
Also she's the one doing "Vanity Fair" with Reese Witherspoon, which will be comming out in a few weeks. I have to go see that it looks great!!! :flowersmile: Can't wait to hear Reese with a british accent should be interesting to say the least. Looks like a very romantic movie. I think she is supposed to be some kind of chamber maid but falls in love with some guy who is quite wealthy it looks very good. It looks like a period peice taking place in the 1800s I suppose.

I suppose that they may want to start writing the script now of OotP so that they can get a head start and once GoF is out then they can start it immediatly but its way too soon to be thinking about a director. Sure wasnt Mike Newell only announced a few months before GoF filming started as being the director of it.
And anyway who is Mira Nair? {scratches head} I've never heard of her. She sounds Indian. Maybe they are going to make OotP into a Bolywood movie with singing and dancing. Thats only a joke! I really dont have a clue.  | |
