[img]http://www.snitchseeker.com/images/news/jkr_80.jpg' align='middle'> Rowling makes number 50 on Tolkien List - Rowling makes number 50 on Tolkien L

Summary:
Rowling makes number 50 on Tolkien List

Article:

TheOneRing.Nethas listed J.K Rowling at number 50 of the people who have helped the Lord of the Rings in the 50th anniversary of Fellowship of the Ring first publication.

50) JK Rowling - I know, some may balk this. But I personally feel she is majorly resposible for making fantasy "cool" again, and bringing literally millions of children to the world of fantasy

I personally liked Lord of the Rings way before I discovered Harry Potter. and you can see some similarities between some characters and themes that Rowling used from Tolkien's books

Hhmm. I don't think HP/JK Rowling helped LOTR. It has however created all these little kids running around screaming "OMG LOTR SUCKS HP ROCKS SO MUCH LOTR COPIED HP". And I'm not being sarcastic, someone actually said that to me just the other day *sigh*.

But I still love HP...so don't attack me just 'cos I like LotR

I agree Karen, the books are too flowery in description for my liking, it bores me after a while, but the story line itself is genius. But the films are amazing, I really love them.

I think JK Rowling has made fantasy novels cool again, and for this new young generation it's made them pick up a book and read it, instead of spending most of their waking moments on a playstation. So I think she has done a tremendous job and remains an inspiration to us all.

hey cool
I don't think she helped him directly but i do think that although he already had fans, a lot of his younger fans mite have read it whilst waitin for the next Harry Potter book because I'm always trying to find anything that might be intereting to read whilst waiting
but i know a lot of them like LotR because of the films i like LotR but only because of the films I am finding the books very hard to read, and have currently got to almost halfway through the Hobbit - it has taken me at about a year
also if anything really Tolkien has helped JKR, i know lots of people say she stole his material, like the Dementors and the black riders, but i think that she didnt steal them, but she was inspired to a point by them. this is allowed, coz every1 has inspirations, but most of JKRs story is straight from her head
dont kill me for sayin this though coz this is only my opinion

I don't think she made fantasy reading cool again. I believe she should have been placed in that list mainly as an author that owes some to LOTR. But it is not fair to say she has stolen stuff from Tolkien; he certainly used stuff from previous authors and legends.
