Further to our news article yesterday, we have an update on it. It seems that JKR's coments were taken out of context and that Gilderoy Lockheart is NOT based on her ex-husband Jorge Arantes. Quote: Harry Potter author JK Rowling has denied she based the character Gilderoy Lockhart on her ex-husband.
Devotees think they have solved the riddle after she gave clues which they believe points to Portuguese journalist Jorge Arantes. She fled Arantes with their daughter Jessica, now ten, after two years.
Rowling first revealed Lockhart, played by Kenneth Branagh in the Chamber of Secrets film, is her only character wholly based on a real person. She said: "It made up for having to endure him for two solid years."
The Harry Potter writer said the real Lockhart is "probably out there now telling everybody he inspired the character of Dumbledore. Or that he wrote the books and lets me take credit out of kindness."
Arantes has claimed he wrote part of the Philosopher's Stone, says The Sun.
JK also said: "The living model is worse. He was a real shocker. I can say this quite freely because he will never in a million years dream that he is Gilderoy Lockhart."
However, Rowling's spokesman said the author denied she was talking about Arantes. "She said she did base him on a real person, but not her ex-husband. It's not a lover, just somebody she knew in her past."

The CBBC has now also commented on this issue saying: Quote: A spokesperson for the author told CBBC Newsround: "JK Rowling says categorically that Gilderoy Lockhart is not based on her ex-husband."
The newspaper claims came after JK's appearance at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
She is now married to Neil Murray, and is expecting her third child next year. Article from Ananova.

I'm glad that she had the decency to deny it, even if it is true. Her ex-husband probably still follows Harry Potter news, and it would have hurt him and Jessica.

Thoughts so. Not the part that he can be based on her husband, but she would never say it just like that. In the report I also wrote that she wouldn't have given us a little more information to go on than that.

If it was based on her ex husband then she probably would of got rid of him much sooner than 2 years. I mean who would put up with someone that iritating for 2 years! Definately not me.
