* Rosamund Pike did turn down Rita Skeeter role - the actress was offered the part Summary:
New information has arisen to support rumors that Rosamund Pike WAS offered the part of Rita Skeeter in GoF but declined due to various reasons. Article: Rosamund Pike did turn down Rita Skeeter role
It was rumored, back when the role of Rita Skeeter in Goblet of Fire was uncast, that Rosamund Pike might be taking the role. It was then confirmed by WB that Miranda Richardson had been given the part instead.
However, more information has surfaced about the Rosamund Pike rumor. When Pike was interviewed by FTV recently (a fashion channel), she stated that she was offered the role as Rita Skeeter, but turned it down when she found out that her scenes in the movie would be minimal and that her contract would require her to be in the fifth movie as well. Quote: "I just regret not doing the movie because I love Mike (Newell) and I owe him a favor; I don't know who replaced me, but I wish her the best luck!" This confirms rumors that Rita Skeeter will have minimal scenes in the fourth film and that Miranda Richardson is probably signed up for OotP at least verbally, as Pike told of how the actress playing Skeeter would be required to commit to the fifth film, aswell as doing the fourth.
Thanks to Veritaserum for this information! |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Remus James Lupin (RJ) Second Year | Gryfflepuff Interesting news. So many times we hear rumors for various actor and actress taking parts for Harry Potter, it's good to know that some of them are really true even though they don't appear in the movie. I am glad Skeeter is going to be in OotP. I felt like the Quibbler interview was important to that story line.

I bet when we see GOF we won't be able to image anyone but Miranda Richardson playing that role, but it's cool to know who else was up for it. Can you image anyone playing Harry, Hermione or Ron? Or anyone for that matter! You know they really wanted Hayley Joel Osmet for Harry for a while? How wrong is that?!

Doesnt he have blond hair and blue eyes? Were they thinking of turning Harry into a nazi poster boy or something? I think that Dan was just the right boy for the job and it would be hard to replace him. I can image Miranda Richardson playing Rita Skeeter and i cant image anyone else doing it. Im sorry to ask but who is Rosmund Pike? I feel like i havent heard of anyone! |

I find this kinda funny but at the same time interesting...
Because in a way I can undestand her, but then again being in a HP film is a once in a lifetime experience...

They originally wanted Hayley Joel because he was well known and did well at the box office. But JK and Chris Columbus both wanted a british unknown to play harry. Thank God!

Had they stuck with Hayley Joel then I doubt there would have been any Harry Potter movies. I heard J.K. got really ticked off that they wanted to make it american, she probably would have pulled the plug on the whole thing... but then, this is how rumors get started.

I think by 'they' you mean WB and yes they might have wanted Hayley for one reason. Money. They're only in it for the money, cause they're a corporate company but I'm glad Jo had the guts to put her foot down.
Making it in an american way would take away the spark that the books have. Plus that kid is very annoying and so visibly acting that he's just unconvincing.

| Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs yeah Emma i agree with you
i am so pelased the JK dug her feet in and said UK cast. i mean Haley jole is an amazing actor but not for Hp.
i think that Miranda Ritchardson will do a great job.
BTW: no matter how small that part i would do it even if i was contracted for 2 films.

Thing is she wouldn't have gotten paid much and British actors don't earn much anyways (the kids are the exception to that rule). They have to make a living like everyone else. Being contracted for two films when she might have the oppurtunity to other projects...I can see why she didn't want to be tied down. It's all to do with equity. Don't believe the hype, the kids may get millions but proper British actors don't.
