| | | Ron & Hermione in 'Greatest Sidekicks' The Knight News, produced by the students at Queens College in New York, has compiled a list of cinemas greatest sidekicks. In the top 100, Ron Weasley came in at 37th & Hermione Granger came in at 36th.
37. *Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) - The Harry Potter films. Why him? Because it's tough living in Harry's shadow, but don't worry Ron, we read book V and your day is coming.
36. *Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) - The Harry Potter films. Memorable Quote: "Now, if you two don't mind, I'm going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed. Or worse, expelled."
They have also dubbed Rupert Grint's portrayal of Ron & Emma Watson's portrayal of Hermione, as 'Career Best Performances'.

Try being Voldemort...seriously, how could any self-respecting villain show his face at the pub when you've been beaten by a child. Seriously...Ron/Ruper should have been number one because he's loyal, smart, a true friend...there from the beginning, and will be there in the end...*sighs* Now that's a sidekick... Quote: |

Oh, btw Ottery's the Ultimate Otter Superhero and uhm Robin would be #3 best sidekick...*winks* |

| [quote=Truthfully, in the books I've never really thought of them as sidekicks, but I GUESS that's what they are (in the movie, anyway!).[/QUOTE]
My quote goofed, this was said by TomsLovelyLady
I agree, that is what I thought when I first saw the word 'sidekicks' used to describe Ron and Hermione. I really don't see them as such. I guess it's because I picture a 'sidekick' as a goofy character that hangs around the main guy making him look good, not a serious character on its own. I don't know, I just keep thinking "Holy smokes Batman!" - that's a sidekick. Ron and Herm. obviously have plenty of depth to their characters on their own and can be freestanding and interesting without Harry. Anyway, I guess I see them as really good friends and companions to Harry... I dunno.
Edit: PS: Ottery - I just noticed you made a Robin reference as well!

| Thankfully there are more to sidekicks then Robin. lol See Samwise. See Ron Weasley. 'Nuff said. Quote: |

| LOL! No, really, Thunderpants isn't *that* bad. I mean, if you're looking for an extremelly intelligent film that you want to win oscars, then no, that's not TP. But if you don't mind a bit of a silly, cult classic film, then TP is for you. And Rupert? Positively brilliant. If anyone doesn't think Rupert can act, see that movie. You'll realize that the people doing HP are obviously doing something wrong for you not to see how brilliant Rupert is. :p |

| That's great. I think they are the best sidekicks ever even though they are kind of main characters as well. I agree though they should definitely have been higher on the list.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Cordelia Flynn First | Yeah, they should have been #'s 1 and 2; but im especially proud of Ron's recognition because honestly hes my favorite character of all the books and he has to take a lot of junk as he's shunted aside and he's so good about not being jealous.........oh what the heck im in love with him even though he's just a character from a book..........i guess that makes me a bit biased......... |

Sorry, couldn't help it! | Bad Lissydove *Ottery tries to scold as he laughs* I meant the comic book Robin, who is waaaaaaaaaaay cooler than the old 60's t.v. show Robin, **** Ward played *really he wasn't that bad, Ottery thinks* But that was too funny no to post...LOL. Quote: |
Thankfully there are more to sidekicks then Robin. lol See Samwise. See Ron Weasley. 'Nuff said.
| *sighs* Well we are talking movie versions so...but comic book Robin's the coolest...really! Quote: |
LOL! No, really, Thunderpants isn't *that* bad. I mean, if you're looking for an extremelly intelligent film that you want to win oscars, then no, that's not TP.
| How did you know about Ottery's quest??? *laments that there aren't more movies like GWtW* but I digress...on purpose...and I don't know...some TP could win oscars...oh wait Thunderpants...sorry wrong TP... Quote: |
And Rupert? Positively brilliant. If anyone doesn't think Rupert can act, see that movie. You'll realize that the people doing HP are obviously doing something wrong for you not to see how brilliant Rupert is. :p
| Of course Rupert can act...that's why I'm hoping he does Driving Lessons...and HP as opposed to just HP. Still Driving Lesson's isn't likely to be a period piece or costume movie so it would be relatively quicker to film and release and he could probably still do HP. But here again I digress...on purpose...and Rupert is brilliant. But I haven't seen Thunderpants...TP yes...thunderpants no... |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Ottery St. Catchpole Third | Don't you dare step on my blue suede shoes...I mean it...don't All quotes from the article... Quote: |
3. *Capt. Louis Renault (Claude Rains)- Casablanca. Why him? Because Bogie wouldn't have anyone to start his "beautiful friendship" with.
| Capt. Renault wasn't a sidekick...he was that irrascible villain... Quote: |
2. Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley)- Schindler's List. MQ: "This list... is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
| Since when is Ben Kingsley anyone's sidekick??? I swear how did they compile this? Name's from a hat... Quote: |
1. *Samwise Gamgee (Sean Austin)- The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Why him? Because "Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam."
| Because the ballots weren't stuffed by the geek club I swear...I thought college students were supposed to be smart... Eight pages...I sat through eight pages and I get this??? Seriously...okay so that guy from 'Ferris Bueler's Day Off' should have been in the top ten...but c'mon Sam Gamgee??? Frodo was the sidekick...didn't he have to drag his lazy bum all the way to the end??? Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh *Ottery fires all his cannons* Nooooooooooooo!!!!!! |

| You crack me up.
& Thunderpants is bad, you're right. But it's not as bad as people make it out to be. It's funny because it kind of mocks itself by saying, "Yeah, this is all British film-makers can do," but Grint's performance in it will have you rolling on the floor in hysterics.
"With your gift and my genius, we'll rule the world!" |
