Post Rickman talks Potter & popularity

The Sault Star has a new interview with Alan Rickman (Snape) in which he briefly talks about his role in Harry Potter and the popularity of the books.

In relation to the popularity of the series, he says,

"Why would it not be a success, I mean, the books alone would mean everybody would go running to it."

Rickman says his younger fans recognize him “only if I’m in a black wig and a long black coat, they don’t really know me otherwise. They kind of stare in some confusion but it’s great.”

“I love seeing their faces when they come on the set when they visit us. And it’s not just children, there’s a lot of adult devotees of Harry Potter.”

“It’s not me, it’s the character they love and all that galaxy of people that JK Rowling had created. So we just kind of put on a costume and say the lines.”

A new picture of Alan, featured in the article, can be seen below.

The rest of the interview, in which he talks about his current project 'Snow Cake' and past roles, can be read here.

Thanks to *Snivellus* for the tip!

Alan Rickman - so cool!!

Very nice that he notices and pays attention to the fans!

Cute, but I don't think that's totally true!

And he's so modest too:
Quote:

It isn't just the character (although that is a part of it)! I for one have loved him in countless other roles! What he does is make Severus Snape real to us on film and he does it so well that his face and voice are permanantly in our minds when we read the book. That is a lot more then reading lines and wearing a costume - that is true talent!!

*le sigh* 'e is so dreamy. Lol. Alan is always so modest. Ooo! he says “I’ve never been to Northern Ontario before so I hope after this I’m going to travel a bit across Canada.” Maybe he'll drop into a little city called North Bay? *wishful thinking* Bah, I'd probably be at work anyway. cool article

I worship this man
He brought to the world the perfect conception of Severus Snape
he brought real depth to a character you only see onscreen for mere minutes but you can see the real Snape

Not to mention his other brilliant roles. I don't think I've ever seen a *bad* movie with Alan Rickman in it. But, as he mentions in the article that he looks for the best scripts (if you read the whole thing), it's not really that surprising.

I love how the younger kids amuse him.

Default Cute Man Indeed

Awww! I can't believe that people don't recognize him! I would know that man anywhere, but that's probably just because I've been obsessed with him ever since seeing "Sense and Sensibility" -- a movie which also introduced me to the genius that is Emma Thompson.

I started liking him because of that film, too! It's so nice ... and it's true: we don't only love Severus Snape but Mr. Rickman himself.

Alan Rickman's so cute. I just watched the movie 'Dogma' in which he plays a little role, and he's awesome in it. I just felt like hugging him.
