| | |  Ralph Fiennes talks Voldemort in new interview
Ralph Fiennes was profiled recently on his body of film work, including playing Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films. Ralph talks about his initial hesitation about taking the part of the Dark Lord, as well as analysing the character from a psychological perspective: Quote:
"I hesitated for a bit before committing to the role because it sort of requires you to personify evil, and I don't know how you do that," Fiennes says. "I latched onto what was maybe crude psychology in working out Voldemort's obsession with Harry.
Harry was loved by his parents, which Voldemort can't stand. He is, of course, a rejected person. It's quite basic: the rejected child who's emotionally been denied affection turns violent. You have to suggest there's more there, a life, a spirit, a mind. It isn't just a creepy voice and makeup. I always think you can find more in something. It's good to just keep asking questions until someone says cut."

Waitaminute, he played Amon Goeth, the absolute definition of evil for the Schindlerjuden, and he doesn't how to personify evil? I find that kind of an odd statement. On that topic however, I'm a huge fan of Schindler's List, and when GOF was being cast, I instantly thought of Ralph's portrayal of Goeth, and I knew there could be no other person on this planet who could play Voldemort. So many friends were saying "Oh give me a break, someone like Ralph Fiennes isn't going to be in a Harry Potter movie." If only I had made bets, I'd be rich right now! (And I still think he was robbed of an Oscar for SL, by the way)

I agree, no one else could have played Voldemort. And Ralph's right... there's no such thing as just a creepy voice and make up. There's something down there, mind and spirit. I loved his interview.

I think Ralph brought Voldemort the life it needed to be absolutly scary. Of course the make up helps a lot, but he has definatly done an awesome job with the inner part of Voldemort

He has played evil much better than as V-Diddy (Red Dragon f.ex) and I have always thought that they could have done a lot more with the 'evilness' of Voldemort in the films, but then, I suppose to maintain Potter's 'bankability' they need to keep their 12/12A rating.

I think Voldie is my 2nd fav character after Tonks cos he is just brilliantly created.I love that defintion of Voldie.
