Ralph Fiennes admits Voldemort is the only villain role he would portray again
Ralph Fiennes, shortly after winning the Evening Standard Theatre Award as Best Actor for his work in both Richard III and The Master Builder West End London stage productions this year, commented earlier this month that while he did want to walk away from portraying iconic villains, there was one in particular he would never close the book on.
Quote:
Ralph Fiennes: You have to go to weird places in your head and — well you can never say never — but after an SS commandant, a serial killer in Red Dragon and Voldemort [in Harry Potter], I decided I didn’t want to be that definition of evil any more. If you play those parts, I feel you have to put your head in the place of that person. And it f--ks with your head.’
[But, if] ‘Voldemort came round again, I would feel possessive... protective. I would like to not let that go.’
More from Fiennes' interview with the Evening Standard can be read here.
While there is probably little to no chance that Tom Riddle or Voldemort would appear in the current Fantastic Beasts film series, the same could not really be said about the production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Rumors are still circulating that the Cursed Child story may - someday many years from now and after the Fantastic Beasts five-part saga is complete - be adapted to the big screen. As such, and without spoiling too much about the eighth and final story in Harry Potter's epic journey, there is always the chance Fiennes could reprise the role of Lord Voldemort once again.
Fiennes did portray Voldemort a single time after the completion of the eight-part Harry Potter film series, and that was for the Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts immersive ride at Universal Orlando Resort's The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley.
