At this weekend's "The Contenders" press event, where heads of some of the biggest production companies in Hollywood came together to discuss this upcoming awards season, two particular executives noted how much the Harry Potter films undeservedly were omitted from the race in the past ten years, especially Deathly Hallow: Part 2. President of Warner Bros Jeff Robinov and Co-chairman of The Weinstein Company, Harvey Weinstein - arguably one of the most influential executives when it comes to the awards show race - pointed out the Harry Potter films as a series of movies that should have been recognised but inexplicably had not. More on that can be read below.  “Which other of your films were unfairly overlooked over the years?”
Robinov : “I think the quality of Harry Potter films has been somewhat discounted. Especially the last one. It feels like the type of movie that traditionally would receive some Oscar attention. Also Inception was a very bold movie, yet it was not rewarded for risk-taking, I do think there is some bias against Hollywood and the resources that it has. Nice when a movie like Titanic actually gets what it deserves.”
“Do Oscars matter to the box office of the big studio movies?”
Weinstein: “Harry Potter is a seminal franchise. I’m going to agree with Jeff: that franchise is not getting the respect that it should. An entire generation grew up into those films. For the young generation, it was a seminal experience saying goodbye to a franchise. [Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2] is as good as any movie that’s in competition this year.”

This is great! Hope the AMPAS can hear. Oscar attention must be paid! After Chamber of Secrets, the Harry Potter series has been the standard-bearer in fantasy and action films, the pinnacle of children books turned to movies and the most beloved movie series of all time. All that and they didn't even need an Oscar. Just recognition and the thought that they'd done an excellent job.

HP should receive accolades for the series but I am afraid that it is like Star Wars & not LOTR. It should be recognized as a whole because it did bring fans together and really brought back audiences to the movies. I think this final one means that it will get a lot of special awards but no singular one like outstanding movie. I think that is what Weinstein is saying. Some recognition but it wont. Art direction/Visual effects it kept losing to Tim Burton's crew or Nolan's team.
I think the franchise should be recognized just for bringing it to the screen. Nice way to honor it.
