| | | Quote of the Week - John Hurt
Actor John Hurt spoke about the Harry Potter series in The Metro, recently, calling it a circus and a phenomenon. Quote: Do you prefer making these kinds of left-field arty films to blockbusters such as Harry Potter and Indiana Jones?
I enjoy what I’m doing at the time, so comparisons can be odious. But if I was given the opportunity of spending my life in independent film, I would. I think the films, because they’re not intended to be blockbusters, are not so limited and they can be of more interest to the audience they’re hoping to reach.
Do you like being part of the Harry Potter circus?
I was in it from the first one and it wasn’t a circus then – they didn’t even know if it was going to be a success. The books were successful, but there are plenty of precedents to say books can be successful and films aren’t. Then it took off and became the biggest film franchise in film history. You see it for what it is – it’s a phenomenon.

Agreed. I like that he enjoys doing the smaller films as well. Those are always fun. I wouldn't say he called Harry Potter a circus, though. |

I love John Hurts voice. It's so recognisable yet mysterious at the same time.

Yeah, phenomenon doesn't even seem to cover it. Though I agree with him about independent films; they're just so much more thought-provoking (mostly) and enjoyable than blockbusters and plain entertainment. Doesn't deter me from obsessing over the last ones, though. |
