| | | Questions for J.K.Rowling
Six questions that will definitely be put to J.K.Rowling by Melissa Anelli and Emerson have been revealed.
The TLC editor will ask: Quote:
- Do memories in a Pensieve reflect reality or the views of the person to which they belong?
- What is the significance, if any, of the gum wrappers Mrs. Longbottom keeps giving to Neville?
- How and when was the veil made?
The Mugglenet editor will ask: Quote:
- It’s stated in book 1 that Dumbledore had ’defeated’ ’the dark wizard Grindelwald.’ Did Dumbledore defeat him in the sense of kill, or remove him from power, but so he may still be alive?
- The importance of our choices has been stressed over and over again in the books. Why was Lily’s choice to sacrifice herself for her son more ’important’ in some sense than her husband’s choice to sacrifice himself for his son and wife? Apparently James knew he had no fighting chance, so choosing to fight in order to give time to his family to flee, was in fact choosing to die for them. But this didn’t seem to offer his wife any magical protection, therefore it seems like a less important sacrifice. Is it because he didn’t actually put his body in front of the person he wanted to save that made his death so... second class? Should that matter? The choice that he made was of equal level to the choice his wife made, I think; but not with the same effect? Why?
- If Lord Voldemort encountered a Boggart what would he see?
The questions were chosen by Leaky & Mugglenet readers through polls. Melissa and Emerson will interview J.K.Rowling at her home in Edinburgh on July 16th.

Oh yeah I remember that poll. I think I voted for the veil one, though something tells me we may learn the answer to it in HBP.
Though if one or more of those questions is asked by another of the reporters, TLC said they'd ask one of the others in the poll.

It'll probably be put online, yeah. I don't think it's going on TV though. What did the email say?
I really like the questions.
Excuse me if I act a bit weird over the next few days. The realisation of what's happening and how close it is, has just sunk in this morning. By this time next week I will have read HBP. Eeeeeep!

They will actually interview her in her home!!!! If that isn't luck, I don't know what luck is. I would probably faint as soon as I stepped on the doorstep.
I like the second question to be asked by Emerson. It's quite well thought out. I think Voldemort's boggart would be seeing himself dead.

Uh huh. Normally, I don't stay up this late (currently 3:12am PST). I'm just too excited to go to sleep, so I'm basically...grinding up/grating up candle wax, to perhaps to tire me out. (yep, this is for real, no doubt)
Yes, I have always wondered what Mrs. Longbottom's gum wrappers mean, even to Neville. I've heard someplace that those wrappers are trying to tell them something. A foreshawdow, perhaps, that even Rowling would not reveal?
I'll have to agree that those are good questions. Yes indeed.

Teeeheeeeee I am having serious trouble containing my exctiment...
What I would give to be Melissa or Emerson!!!!!!
Those q's are really great, I voted in both those polls, they are really well thought out, we should get some good answers, unless JK can't divulge the answers, then it would just be really frustrating and drive us mad...
6 days to go!!!!!! lalalallalalalalalallalalalalalalalalalalalalaaaaa aaaaa
Everyone thinks I'm gone mad, I can't see why...

Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.

| !!!!! I don't mean to be such a pessimist, but why can't there be any...maybe "worthwhile questions" isn't what I'm looking for, but how about something that actually hast to do with Madam Rowling and not something that we may very well find out in later books?
How about something that asks about her as a writer? Something that other aspiring writers might like to know? How does she work? Where does she get her ideas? Characters? Names? There are hundreds of questions to be asked--why not even ONE of those?

| I've been wondering about most of those too. Except the one about James. The question makes a good point but the whole protection thing has to do with blood and parent-child love, so I don't think it would have affected anything with James too Lily. |

It's funny, because I completely agree--that's exactly what I was thinking. That WAS the one question I thought sounded like it might yeild an interesting answer, yet had the probability of not being adressed in the books.
That, and the pensieve one sounded appropriate too.
Look, I'm not saying that these are all bad questions, I'm just grouching about the ABSENCE of questions that pertain directly to Madam Rowling and her writing. |

Thing is, it's not just James to Lily, but James to Harry. Featherly love. Paternal. And what about matrimonial love? Love plays such a huge part in the series; it can't be only maternal love that is self-sacrificing. Quote:

These aren't the only questions. Melissa and Emerson will most likely ask ones of their own which may pertain to JK. But obviously they wanted to give the fandom a fair choice and the decision was diplomatic so it was chosen by the fans.

Actually - if you've ever read any past interviews that JKR has given - you'll find she is almost always asked those same questions. i.e. who is your favorite author, when did you decide to become a writer, tell us about your first book, how do you come up with the names for characters etc. I actually get tired of not having people ask "informed" questions such as the ones that Mugglenet and Leaky Cauldron are proposing. Go to this link to see what I'm talking about. http://www.quick-quote-quill.org/index2.html Poor Mrs. Rowling is always having to answer the same questions about herself over and over again. I'm glad for the questions Mugglenet and Leaky Cauldron have come up with. They actually sound like people have read the books.

And I didn't mean to come off so obnoxious, I'm just really very excited about all of this, and as Rowling is deffinitely someone I look up to as such an accomplished writer, I want anything I can get! |

thats interesting. i sent in a similar question like the one about Gindelwald to the Today Show interview website. Mine was shorter though. i just asked "How did Dumbledore defeat Grindelwald in 1945?". Personally I like theirs better. Its more specific.
