| | | Professor Snape: 'A teacher from hell'
Professor Severus Snape ranked 3rd on the 8 Great Teachers from Hell list on Movies.com.
His profile read: Quote: Teacher name: Professor Snape Played by: The delicious Alan Rickman Subject: Potions Symptoms of hellishness: Clearly favoring Slytherin students, constantly berating Harry, sneering. Student response: Lighting Snape's cape on fire, misplaced suspicion and distrust. Why you gotta watch it: While Chris Columbus' take on Harry Potter isn't quite as delicious as Alfonso Cuarón's, this introduction to J.K. Rowling's world of muggles and wizards is still pretty magical. Rickman absolutely nails Snape's confounding blend of malice and secret compassion.

I can't think of a better protrayal of a teacher in the movies....well unless you count the classical, Good-bye Mr. Chips which I adore as a movie.

LoL, I love that. Congrats to Snape! 'Teacher from Hell,' I'd say that's quite an honor. I had one of those teachers last year. All I gotta say is thank God for High School, and Snape deserves the award!

They've either not read HBP or they're a supporter of the 'Snape isn't evil' theory. Either way I agree. MISplaced suspicion and distrust, INDEED.
Sometimes the firmer teachers are, the better. No-one's going to pander to you in the real world. And it gives you a desire to do well and prove them wrong. Some of my best teachers have come across as horrible/strict/mean.

Maybe he just needs a Starbucks fix... Here's a cup ...
backs away as Snape turns the cup of coffee into a slobbering, growling...
nevermind...I think I'll leave now...

Some of my best teachers have come across as horrible/strict/mean. Agreed. And clearly Harry did learn from him, as I find I often do from my stricter teachers. I mean, if he hadn't remembered his first lesson with Snape, he might never have thought to use a beazor to help Ron.
Teacher from hell he may be, but I think he's rightly clever and a good teacher. And not evil.

Yup and he passed his Potions OWL. And he spent his whole 6th year using Snape's tips to do his work! He even defended him (unknowingly) to Hermione when she got suspicious of the book.
