| How could Farenheit 9/11 ever have a chance as best movie? i didn't know propaganda could win, but then again, it's hollywood and they would rather a movie bashing the president win than a good movie rightly win.

It'd be better if it didn't win anything. After all, Alfonso Cuaron doesn't like Hollywood so I doubt he'd even attend. Bring on the BAFTA's! I don't have much faith in the Oscars because the majority of films that win don't even get released in the UK until after the awards ceremony.
HP doesn't need the Oscars stamp of approval to be recognised as a good story and a great film.
And it is just "contenders", these films aren't actually nominated for the awards yet. This is also known as rumor circulating around the Hollywood big-wigs. Harry Potter, in the end, might not be nominated at all.

Even though this sounds great. I´m pretty sure that it´s a rumour. Mainly because the nominations will first be chosen in january next year, the oscars are due in february. Anyway I really think that POA should stand a chance, after all it is certaintly the most mature of the 3 hpmovies so far. But if I should make my guess I think that it will be in the music, sound, speciel f/x and cinematography catagories the movie got the best chances of a nomination. By the way, you should keep an eye on the golden globes, which are just before the oscars, there it if often forshadowed who will win at the oscars.
GOD LUCK TO POA

| Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs I agree with Emma. very rairly does a film made in the UK get Oscar Nominated let alone win.
i think that most of the cast crew ETC will be happy if they win a BAFTA which is well not so hollywood. and actualy go for the better film, actor ETC

Hmmm.... Harry Potter winning oscars? never thought of that possibility before! I mean- it could win for visual effects, but it just doesnt seem oscar-like for best pic.

i think that most of the cast crew ETC will be happy if they win a BAFTA which is well not so hollywood. and actualy go for the better film, actor ETC Though you diparage the Oscars. they are meant to showcase the best of whatever field something is nominated for. Harry Potter is a crossover, loved by many in every country. Someone else from the UK said they dont like American films, and americans dont get a chance to see all of the films produced in other countries (hence the foreign film catagory.) which usually ends up being a great movie from another country and the only reason americans end up seeing it was because it was mentioned at the Oscars.
I do agree though that British actors working in the UK produced by a studio there and the book originally written by a countryman would make the BAFTAs more important in their eyes.
But as a fan of Harry Potter, any awards, in any country would be an honor and should be looked on as such. It almost seems as if you think its an insult if it is nominated in an american award show.

I think POA will be nominated for art direction or cinematography. It was brilliant when compared to the first two movies.Maybe music as well!I really hope POA gets an oscar(or perhaps more!)
