Omg, I'm in love with this score. It seems to fit the storyline perfectly!
Fireworks: It's more...rock n roll...than I would have expected, but it's so playful and triumphant! Very Fred and George! Excellent!
Professor Umbridge: This is such a perfect song. It's light, but heavy at the same time. With the pull of the strings, you can feel the darkness under the light playing of the score.
Another Story: This is fabulous to open a much darker Harry Potter with a much darker, foreboding version of the beloved Hedwig's Theme. Beautiful, but warning.
Dementors in the Underpass: This is horribly perfect. It's terrifying, to be exact. Unlike the PoA Dementors' theme, this is much more dangerous and horrifying.
Dumbledore's Army: You just feel good and excited when this theme swells. It's promising, hopeful, and, once more, triumphant...showing the light in the dark. Excellent!
The Hall of Prophecies: Such an action song. It suggests battle, struggle, escape, and the failures as well as successes they face in the Hall. Beautiful.
Possession: Possibly my favorite of them all. It's sounds so dangerous and sad and filled with disgust. It sends chills through you as you get the picture of the scene from the book. It is perfect...and unexpected. I thought it would be more aggressive, more violent, if you know what I mean. But it's not. It's definitely dark and harsh, but it's got somewhat of a subtle beauty about it; which makes it more haunting and terrifying.
The Room of Requirements: Again, a more playful theme, but it suggests wonder and mystery. It's grand and full...a great theme for a great room!
The Kiss: From the preview, it's not my favorite. I think this has mostly to do with the fact that it has little to no precise melody. It sounds darker than it should, which I don't think was very appropriate. But, to fully critique it, I'll have to hear the whole thing!
A Journey to Hogwarts: Now, I like the song. It's beautiful and a little dark. I just wish I knew what scene it was exactly. Is it the one on the train at the beginning of the year? If so, it sounds a little to sad. Is it after the ordeal at the Hall of Prophecies? This is more likely, but if it's done as the book is, Harry uses a Portkey back to Dumbledore's Office. We'll have to see.
The Sirius Deception: My favorite behind "Possession." This is PERFECT for Kreacher's treachery in "Out of the Fire." It has all of the panic and the anger that Harry has during the book...making you relive the same emotions you had while reading. I LOVED this preview!
The Death of Sirius: I would assume the preview is among the battle part with Bellatrix Lestrange. The choir just adds the horrible foreshadowing. YOu just can feel that it's not going to end well, that something bad is about to happen, especially at the spooky halt in the music at the very end of the clip. Well done.
Umbridge Spoils a Beautiful Morning: First of all, I love the title. And the music, alone, makes a statement about the character. YOu automatically know that she's awful. Yet, it's subtly playful...meaning that like the book, we are going to love to hate her!
Darkness Takes Over: It's simply a good orchestration for the title. It's dark, unforgiving, and harsh...like Voldemort.
The Ministry of Magic: This is also another favorite. It's probably when Harry enters the Ministry, and it's filled with the wonder and awe at the beauty and size of the building and government. HOwever, it has an underlying foreboding and chill that lets us know that this could-be wonderful place is, in some way, corrupt, and that Harry should be feeling anxious for his upcoming trial.
The Sacking of Trelawney: This is just, in one word, sad. It's very melancholy. It's actually more depressing than I would have guessed simply because of the character Trelawney is and the character Umbridge is. I would have expected a more hysterical sound rather than depressing loss. Still, a good song.
Flight of the Order of the Phoenix: I liked this one a lot too. It's a glorious theme that is a little intense, but still, it's hopeful, relieved, but prepared for something more...something to continue. The Order knows they just made a great escape, triumphantly capturing many Death Eaters, foiling Voldemort's plan, and Fudge knows the truth. They are happy, but they know they have dark times looking ahead.
Loved Ones and Leaving: This song is tragic, but has a melancholy beauty, which makes it all the more tragic. I just picture Harry thinking about Sirius, saying goodbye to Hogwarts, going off to the Dursleys. Sad song...beautiful.
Anyway, can't wait til it comes out so I can hear the whole thing. I love orchestrations...I've played the flute for 11 years now, so I've grown to love classical and themes and orchestrations.
