| | | 'Potter' trial educates kids The Pocono Record has an article about a mock trial held at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School based on Harry Potter, aimed at educating kids about the judicial system.
The trial revolved around 'Sal Malfoy' being accused of taunting and paralysing Wendell 'Wendy' Bobbles.
Attorney Megan Reaser said, "Harry Potter is something (the students) can relate to. The hope is for them to see the time and preparation it takes to build a case and how the jury deliberates."
The entire article can be read here.

Oh how cute is that??? We did something like that in high school, but it had to do with trying an ex-Nazi (and I was a prosecution lawyer! ) No Harry Potter yet during MY time. That would have been awesome!! I would definitely participate, but probably not a good thing because I might take it to heart teehee....

^ yeah... little tip: what you're doing is considered spamming, so don't post plenty of times in a row...
Anyway, so this mock-trial is for 5th graders?? Again, that's so cute! But I wonder if they will really understand what they're doing??

Anyway - That was a really great idea!! An excellent way to teach is to apply the topic to something the learner can relate to! So much more interesting that way. Good for them!

We did mock trials based on Lord of the Flies in high school. I almost proved Jack innocent (he's the bad guy). To me that was a little scary. As Defence, it was my job to get him cleared of all charges but I basically agreed that he was "guilty". This is basically why I decided *not* to persue law as a career. The focus is far to much on winning, not justice.
Um... er this is cool though. I love the mock trial things. they really make you think.

yea im my school when i was in eight grade the sixth grade teachers painted a floor black and white like a chess board after they finished the book and every 6th grader was sorted in to 1 of the 4 houses and you can only sit in that house and the 6th graders played the game of chess where they were the pieces and it was about working together and they were awarded points to the house if the kids won a game of they did something correct but if they did something bad they got points taken away.
man i wish they did thay to my year but no we had a paper doll to send round [dont ask] I ONLY MISSED IT BY TWO YEARS
