| | | Potter thieves in court today The BBC reports that the two men who stole copies of ' Half-Blood Prince' and tried to sell them to reporters from The Sun, today appeared in court.
Aaron Lambert, 19, and Christopher Brown, 37, were accused of offering two stolen copies of the new book to Sun newspaper reporter John Askill. Quote:
Mr Lambert was given bail until 10 October, and Mr Brown bailed to return to the magistrates court in two weeks.
Justices were told witness statements relating to Mr Brown's alleged part in the case had not been prepared.
He faces one count of handling the stolen books - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - and one of possession of an offensive weapon.
Mr Lambert, who will appear before Northampton Crown Court in October, is accused of possessing an imitation firearm, a replica handgun with intent to cause Mr Askill to fear unlawful violence.

Does anyone know what punishments people recieve for theft, selling stolen property, and buying stolen property in the UK? Just curious.

The most they'll get is probably fines and maybe a few months in jail. The most serious offence is the firearms - especially since replica guns were very recently outlawed by Parliament. But the Justice system sucks and is, alot of the time, on the side of the criminals.

i agree i dnt think they shiuld have been given bail. i fink they should have remained in custody then put on trial and have a large prison sentance god it really annoys me when the law isnt tough enough on criminals like them

Oh, thanks I wasn't sure if it was just a regular registry hand wepon or something. If it's something like a firearm and he's not registered he could be in even more trouble! Atleast thats how it is in the States and Canada.
Yay Canada eh?!

You can't have a licensed gun in this country (unless it's for recreational use), I don't think. You're certainly not allowed to carry a gun.

Why couldn't they just wait like every other newspaper? It's not physically impossible, I mean look, we're all waiting like normal people for the new book. *shakes head* Downright horrible. Well I hope that they get fined or go to jail. Ridiculous.
