Post Potter stars on Sunday Times Rich List (UPDATE #2)

According to CNN J.K. Rowling and Dan Radcliffe have both made it onto the Sunday Times Rich List. Jo came in at #101 in the overall list with an estimated $733 million. The newspaper states that Dan has a fortune of $44 million, which places him at #12 on the list for young people.

UPDATE: The Telegraph says that Emma Watson also made the list of young people, with a reported £12 million. They also report that J.K. Rowling rose from the 144th position which she held last year. She is said to have given around £80 million to charity and is currently the 10th richest woman in the world.

The Daily Mail reports that Jo came 2nd on the Media and Arts list, while The Daily Star reports that Emma Watson came 29th on the list for young people. Last year Emma was in 55th place.

UPDATE #2: It appears that Rupert Grint also made it onto the young people's list. He has risen from being 71st last year, to 45th this year, with an estimated fortune of £9 million.

Because she lost money.

Where? None of the publications have mentioned him and the full thing won't be released until later today (Tuesday).

Not on it. He hasn't earned enough outside the HP franchise to make it.

Actually nobody in the Potter World has made enough outside of it to get on the Rich List. While Emma has done quite a bit of modelling recently, Lily Cole who modelled at the top level for several years before going to Cambridge is on the List with 'only' about £4m. There's no way, Emma could have earned enough part-time to equal that, especially as she doesn't do endorsements, and the Chanel thing didn't happen. Dan has been successful in the theatre, but that's for prestige and experience (both very good things!), films are usually where enough is earned to make the millions needed to get on this list.

I don't have it with me now, so some of these figures are dependent on memory, but on Sunday I read The Sunday Times Rich List magazine from cover to cover. Rupert Grint IS on it with £9m as opposed to Emma's £12m. I wasn't convinced as to why there was a difference between their figures, especially as in the earlier films it was believed that he was earning more. The reason he hasn't been mentioned in these reports is the same as the reason he was frequently not in headlines about the recent filming in London - for better or worse he's just less known by, and therefore mentioned by, the press. So when he's not mentioned, it shouldn't be taken as proof he's not involved.

I also wasn't convinced of the amount that JKR was said to have earned, though their reasoning as to the amount given to charity DID ring true - and was very admirable.

As very few of the rich themselves actually co-operate with these figures they should be taken with a pile of salt - it's about 60% guesswork, but it's fair to say that being closely linked to Harry Potter is good for the Bank Balance!

Glad they have money. As for me, it's hard enough to pay for college (I'm saving up for it), so I have to work to make it viable for me. Frankly, it's hard for me to even fathom that amount of money. More power to them; glad that they're putting it to good use with their charities.
