| | | Potter series "most lucrative film franchise ever"
Harry Potter has displaced the James Bond series as the top grossing film series of all time. That is 5 Potter films against 22 Bond films at the worldwide box office. Warner Brothers announced Monday that to date Harry & Company eclipsed the old record by taking in the still growing record of $4.47 billion and remember, WB has two more Potter movies scheduled, plus film 5 is still showing in major markets. Quote:
"It is amazing to think what heights the franchise could reach by the end of the decade," said Warner's domestic distribution president Dan Fellman.
Currently playing movie five, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", helped the Potter series pass the 007 movies on September 2 when it reached $923.7 million at the box office. The James Bond franchise falls to second place with $4.44 billion. Harry now tops even the 6 films of Star Wars which is in third place at $4.23 billion. Order of the Phoenix is still showing in many countries as a feature film, and this will only add to the Potter lead. Quote:
"The appeal of the 'Harry Potter' movies knows no border, no age limit and no language barrier," Warner's international distribution president Veronika Kwan-Rubinek said.

I don't really think the income should be the one factor to consider, but the number of tickets sold. Hey, the first 007 was somewhere in the 60's, when tickets cost a lot less! The number of tickets and population ratio should be the factors to consider.
On the other hand, about the undeniable succes of Harry Potter, there are loads of factors, the first one being that the book fans range from extremely young (not sure about the age of the yungest fans) to fairly old (again, not sure, but I'm sur I'm not exactly among the oldest), while Bond, for instance is more for upper teens and up. Us book fans are counted in the tens of millions, and then you have to add the movie fans, who would watch just anything, especially the blockbuster of the season, plus the fans of each new actor (Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, etc.), you get soooo many people.
But anyhow I consider it a great record. And still two to go, that record will be quite hard to beat.

The most amazing fact is that HP over took that series with 5 movies vs. so many James Bond films. There will be a new Bond move out next year so that series has had decades compared to time HP has had to over take the top spot. Well done to all invoved with HP on the film front.

I found that very amusing I think it's more than just possible even when movies cost less, I saw that movie four times in one week!
