| | | Potter: A sequel as good as the original The Salt Lake Tribune has an interesting article about how a sequel, such as Harry Potter can turn out to be just as good if not better than the original. Quote:
In books as in movies, the sequel is almost never as big as the original. But seven years after J. K. Rowling's ''Harry Potter'' children's series began with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the excitement shows no sign of abating.
Quote:
Scholastic spokeswoman Kyle Good said the publisher has not yet determined the size of the first printing, but is mindful of what happened with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The first printing was 6.8 million, but the publisher had to rush back to press for another 1.7 million copies before the release date, and added 800,000 more almost immediately, for a total of 9.3 million within the first few days of publication. Five million books were sold in the first 24 hours.
Quote:
Independent booksellers are excited, but they are also worried about having enough books, in a world where the giant retailers make the biggest orders.

Hmm... If I remember correctly, the local bookstore here didn't have enough copies of OotP for all, I think the first batch was sold out within a week or less, and most of those have been pre-orders. I got my book when the second batch of books arrived. Well, there's a lesson here. Pre-orders should be made, especially with something as big as Harry Potter.
Thanks for the info, Emma! :sorcerer:

Winner! Well my fave book (and film) is PoA...
I have my copy of Half Blood Prince pre-ordered! My Mum did it for the day after it was announced (unfortunately not the actual day but she wasn't able to get to a computer.... but still! She's a star!) And I pre-ordered my copy of OotP so that it was there waiting for me when I got up in the morning - and then I read all the live long day!
I'm soooo excited!!!!

i think the sequels are better in Harry Potter's case because they are all great stories unlike some sequels to othe rmovies. POA is my favorite HP book so yea i think in this case sequels are better.

well the books do get better and better, just that the newest arent exactly my most favorite out of the series. the books are being more developed, more complex, more mysterious.. and this must be some conspiracy of JK's to reel us in and cut us short of information ... haha jk.

I wouldn't say that I think the 5th book was the best, even though it was the longest. In fact, I prefer PoA. I think its more popular becuase every time there's more fanfiction and more discussion as more clues to the ending come out. With JKR's website too, its not going to die down any time soon

I believe that even though the HBP will be as great as the other 5 books even though it doesnt follow the enlarging the size pattern.

Oh I cant wait for HBP. I'm so excited. Im unsure on pre-ordering because I'm not sure if I'll be home for the summer. I might go to New York for summer vacation like I did for OotP and go to the midnight party to get my copy.
