Post Potter fans recover from HBP 'hangovers'

Newsday has an interesting article detailing how Potter fans are coping with the 'hangover' in the aftermath of 'Half-Blood Prince'. The article discusses some of the most popular theories on the net.

Note: The article does contain HBP spoilers so please skip this thread if you've not finished the book.

Quote:
Snape - good or evil? The answer to this hinges on whether you think Dumbledore's death was a pact between the two, a necessary sacrifice to ensure Voldemort does not suspect Snape's betrayal. Or whether you believe Snape was a double-double agent, convincing the wise but trusting Dumbeldore that he was defying Voldemort's orders to spy on Hogwarts, but in truth keeping his promise to the Dark Lord.

Then there is the "crush" theory. Rowling has hinted there was someone else at Godric's Hollow the night Harry's parents died. And it was out of character for cranky Voldemort to give Lily Potter so many chances to step aside before he attempted to kill her son.

Was Snape at Godric's Hollow, and was it at his request that Voldemort agreed to spare Lily? And is that why Snape resents Harry so deeply - because Harry, with his mother's green eyes, reminds Snape of the woman who died in order for Harry to live?

Well the idea that Snape may have been at Godric's Hollow, or perhaps he may not have been there actually, but that he asked Voldemort not to kill Lily is quite interesting, and frankly, one which never occured to me.

Personally I think that as strange as the words double-double agent may seem, Snape is still on the good side. After all, jus t like Dumbledore had said, "Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it." Asking someone to kill you may not seem like the best way to help someone, but I'm sure HP7 will be able to answer that perfectly for us.

yep same here! They are good theories, and very interesting but i didn't know Jo hinted at them. Still i don't think Snape is a 2x-2x, i think he was a 2x, aka EVIL.

When did JK hint that someone else may have been at Godric's Hollow?

Wrong. Jo even said in her interview with Emerson that love is the difference between LV and Snape; Snape understands it, the Dark Lord doesn't. He showed compassion to Narcissa in Chapter 2. Jo also said he has been loved in the past and when saying Lupin liked Lily, refused to confirm if Snape also admired her.

Otts, my friend, nothing is black and white. Snape is most definitely GREY.

The clues are there . He's so not.

In the Emerson/Melissa/JKR interview.

Huh, interesting. Never knew that some one else was hinted at being there. Though I'm a bit iffy about the Snape being loyal thing, I'm pretty sure that snape being at godric's hollow wouldn't affect Voldemort in any way.

I had a slight hangover for a few days after I read the book..I was at soccer camp so I couldn't exactly think very hard after being so physically exhausted. Good theories though.. I loved the book, but was slightly disappointed in the way she kind of jumped around a bit too much and left things sort of 'haning'. Hopefully she'll tie everything up in the last enstallment of HP. I've heard that J.K. Rowling was thinking about making a book or two of HP AFTER they had gotten out of Hogwarts. Has anyone else heard that?

She's said book 7 is the last and that'll have an epilogue telling us what happened to the characters later in life.

I think my hangover resulted not from a few of the major twists in the plot but just...I was expecting a bit more, and not everything I felt was explained.

The problem with the sparing Lily theory--why would Lord Voldemort have agreed to a request from his Death Eater, especially one like that? Hmm...
