FictionAlley is organizing a school supply and book drive for the kids, who lost so much due to Hurrican Charley, have great gear for back to school. Article:
Last weekend, Hurricane Charley swept across the center of Florida, leaving millions without electricity and thousands homeless. We've been told by people in the area that some schools were in, or near, the eye of the storm, and suffered extensive damage.
FictionAlley is organizing a school supply and book drive to make sure that the kids who lost so much in the storm have great gear to start school with. If you're interested in helping, when you go shopping this year for your own schoolthings, pick up an extra notebook or two, or a set of pens or pencils, and send them down to:
FA Supply Drive
ATTN: Heidi Tandy
1111 Lincoln Road, Suite 400
Miami Beach, FL 33139
We're sure that some kids have even lost their copies of the Harry Potter books, and other favorite books too, so in addition to new school supplies, we're collecting new or excellent condition books as well. They can also be sent to the above address.
We're only going to be able to collect through September First, as school will be starting even before that, so please, send your donations as soon as possible.
If you're interested in sending money, don't send it to the above address. A list of agencies that are collecting for those devestated by the storm can be found here. |

This is awesome! I live in Florida and the storm missed my town by inchs. Watching the local news lately is like watching a horror movie. The damage is really bad. Soom schools the roofs were ripped apart and some houses were torn to peices. People are having to go to certain places to get food because the power is out and they can't get money from the ATMs.
But Anyway I think this is awesome! My donation is on the way!

I've only been to Florida once, but that was a couple years ago...
This is great to see people helping out when disasters (like hurricanes) happen.

But Anyway I think this is awesome! My donation is on the way! that's lucky for you!!! lol that's sad though. That reminds me of the fires that were here in Southern California last year. that was scary too. it missed my house by like, one mile. scary. but this is soooo cool!! If I went school shopping, I would do it. lol I hope everything goes okay for the people in Florida!

Yeah, I live in tampa and I evacuated, so we went to the kissimmee area and what do you know it hits there instead. My parents and I went to volunteer last weekend, we made sandwhiches and devlievered them and water to the people cleaning up their homes. It was very sad. I am glad that HP fans are so generous. Thanks alot!!!

I live in Rhode Island and we had bad weather all weekend because of the remnants of the storm, I can only imagine what Florida must have been like. This is good news.

I live in tampa too. but I wasn't evacuated. It didn't even rain. Its really sad to see all the work people put in to their homes and businesses be destroyed in several hours.

Awsome how people are banning together. I live in Louisiana and i went through hurricane Lily. We where in the town that was worst hit and we just thank our lucky stars that Lily went down from a catergory 4 to a 2 right before it hit land. It was just so overwhelming the way other states came together to help us and all the other electricians (sp?) from other states came here to help us restore power. Over here its really hot so we were hoping to restore it to get the A.C.s back on. I just love how people come together!

I feel really bad for those kids who lost everything and will be starting school soon. Guess they will have to relocate to go to schools that weren't destroyed by the storm. I live in South Carolina and all we got was rain, the coast saw some property damage but no lives were lost as was the case in Florida.
I just copied the address down and when I get paid next week I'll be sending some supplies. My heart goes out to all of those who lost someone from the storm.

My best friend was in Florida, right when it hit. I couldn't get in touch with her for days cause cell phone connections were cut and I was soooo scared, but she's. I have two copies of the fifth. I think I'm going to send one!

Some of the damage left by Charley is horrible. I live in Longwood Florida, but my house diddnt get hit that bad. We lost power for a little while, and 3 trees fell but nothing serious. A lot of my friends still dont have thier power back and are living in hotels. And one of my friends' playroom wall has a hole in it from a fallen tree. I'm just lucky nothing like that happened to my house.
Its awsome for me now though cuz we've had school off for this whole week. My school want even touched but those in Winterpark and Oveido and stuff were almost destroyed. No more bio test for me |

That's really awesome, such a good cause! I live in New York so minus a couple of thunder storms we were untouched, but I see things on the news and it's so horrible. Leave it to Potter fans to be awesome once again! Good Job!!

I'm gunna take part in this. We live in Chicago but my dad's best friend lives in Ft. Myers and they didn't evacuate and his wife had an asthma attack and 'cause of Charley she stopped breathing and now she's not going to make it. I think this would be a great idea because every year she organized a school supply every year. That's what I love Potter fans. We got each other's back.
