| | | Potter books popular with Guantanamo Bay prisoners The Australian has an interesting article detailing the effect Potter has had on prisoners in Guantanamo Bay. Quote: |
Ex-US Air Force translator Ahmad Al Halabi, who was also a librarian at Guantanamo Bay prison, said Hicks was one of several inmates who were "always arguing about which volume of Harry Potter they could have".
| Quote: |
Investigators thought a series of numbers next to Hicks's name on a cell block roster were part of a secret coded message between Mr Al Halabi and Hicks. But the "code" was in fact the reference numbers for the Harry Potter books in the library.

The JK Rowling bestsellers have been in high demand among Western prisoners.

| I find it a bit ironic that people who are in prison for plotting against America, are reading one of America's most beloved books. |

| ^ nice imagery!! They could probably relate to Sirius, which would appeal to the prisoners. |

I wonder if there's any possibility whatsoever some self-righteous nut would look at this article and say that the Harry Potter series appeals to convicts because of it's morally suspect nature or some such nonsense. Maybe make a correlation between the series and and people who've done evil in this world.
Then again, I might be paranoid |

Then again, I might be paranoid | Right on the first part, and no you're not, it's just a matter of time...tick tock tick tock...it's not one of the most banned books for nothing... |

| Go inmates!!! Good for them for wanting to read the best books! I agree in a way about the Sirius in prison factor, but it's also great escapism. I can't say I blame them for wanting to "get away" for a little while. (even if they deserve time) |
