| | | Possible release date for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Thanks to Mugglenet for this information Quote:
Someone in a position to know (whose name we obviously can't reveal) has given us word that Scholastic is planning for a mid-June 2005 release for book six, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. More specifically, they are considering June 11th and June 18th - both Saturdays.
As always, treat this as a rumor until we can get real confirmation, which in this case will most likely come from JK Rowling's official site.
Then they had this to say as well, which is actually a really good theory Quote: My two cents: This timeframe is a little earlier than I expected, but, call it wishful thinking, it still seems pretty logical. Consider: a June 2005 release would be 2 years after book 5 - ample time to finish a story that is supposed to be significantly less than OOTP (many estimates have it at half the length). She wrote GOF in 1 year, if you remember, under different circumstances. It took JKR 3 years to write the monster that is OOTP and that was with extremely long breaks from writing. Jo does have a baby due this spring, but she has said repeatedly that it will not delay the book's release.
At the Edinburgh Book Festival last August (3 1/2 months ago) she said she was more than half-way done.
I guess all we can do at this point is speculate and hope, but I'm optimistic.
Thanks to Mugglenet |

| Moo Spork? SPORKY SPORKY!!
This makes sense to me considering she released OotP in mid-June. I would guess she will aim for this time frame again because summer is a BIG reading time!! I HOPE that this rumour turns to truth!!!

Under half the length? I'd rather she took another two years and gave us a 1000 page account of Harry's sixth year... I like my Potter books in large doses.

I'm also inclined not to believe this for that exact same reason. I don't believe JK when she says HBP will be smaller than OotP for the simple fact that she said the exact same thing about OotP being smaller than GoF and look what happened there!

Mugglenet now has this editorial about the issue.
It states that in October 2004 JK said she'd done 20 chapters and that two months before that, in August, she said she was just over half-way through the book.
So for her to be nearing finished now she'd have to have written about 5-7 chapters in two months.
She started writing it just after OotP in June 2003 and so if it took her just over a year to write the first half then I don't see how she could've down several chapters in 2 months.
If 20 chapters is the final amount then just over halfway would be 12/13. I don't think 20 is the right figure though.
Here's my theory:
When JK made that 'Just over halfway comment' I think she must've complted between 15/18 chapters - that would leave a reasonable amount that she could've completed by October 2004 to get that number up to 20. In which case OotP should be between 30 and 36 chapters long - that's still shorter than OotP 38 chps.
For the chapter number to stay small in the finishing of the book she must've done between 10 and 13 by August which would lead to a total of 20 to 26 chapters. But then doing 8 chapters or more in two months doesn' seem pheasable to me.
Considering the rumor is June 2005 that would mean the book would have to go to press mighty soon like January time. Between October and January that might only allow for 3/4 more chapters, give or take making the book 23/24 chapters long.
So I think that if you're happy with a 23/24 chapter HBP then hope this is the release date but me, I'd rather it be longer so I hope this isn't true.
Afterall, as much as she says HBP will be shorter than OotP, we all know what happened with OotP. She said that would be shorter than GoF and just look what happened there!

I'd like it if she spent more time, but she made the book like 1000 pages long. I like books that are long- they're more exciting and more detailed.

Cool... A June release, just like OotP...
Though I wouldn't really mind whenever it's released... Suspense is good for the heart...
Thanks for the info! :sorcerer:

Dumbledore99 had this VERY valid point at Mugglenet Quote:
the order of phoenix came out on june 31st for a very special reason, cos thats the last day of the exams in the uk, so HBP wont be out before about then, as jk wont release her book halfway throught our exams
That was the last day of GCSE/A Level exams. I think if it is in June, it wont be until the 31st or else the 31st of July. J.K.Rowling knows that British kids would risk their exam results to read her book if it came out any sooner.
My last exam was June 4th so I was lucky but now that I think about it, this makes perfect sense.
Although I still dont want an early date such as this if it means a short book.
My theory is that the books keep getting bigger (and this is true, CoS was bigger than PS, PoA bigger than CoS, GoF bigger than PoA, OotP bigger than GoF - despite her saying it wouldn't be).
My little theory is that J.K.Rowling's books keep getting bigger because the end is coming nearer and she simply doesn't want to let go. It makes sense. I know alot of people thought there a tremendous amount of 'waffle' in OotP, I thought so too, but coming to the end, she doesn't want to let go of ehr characters and thus the books continue to grow bigger.
She says she's 99.9% sure HBP will be smaller than OotP but what you have to remember is she said the exact same thing in comparison between OotP being shorter than GoF. And look what happened.
I don't blame her for not wanting to let go because we don't want to either. The bigger the book, the better but not if it's waffle. Quality is better than quantity although I'm reluctant to say that because I don't want the series to end.

Two good points again from Mugglenet: Quote:
i think that Jo will "announce" it in christmas, beyond the door.
but one thing: in her desktop, it is still the note of "it wont be very soon", speaking about the annouce of the 6th.
I expect Jo will have something to say about this rumor.

yeah, i also don't really think that the book will be out by next june, cause i really hope that it won't be much shorter than ootp. and i agree with the not letting go theory (i feel the same). but i still hope that hbp will be released some time next year.

Oh I hope it's true !!! Those dates are perfect. Considering that I am probably gonna be out of school and if there is school I could still go to the Barnes and Noble midnight book party !!

Well British kids will still be in exams up till the 31st and JK released it on the 31st before - paying attention to the kids needs to do their GCSE's/A Levels so I doubt it'll be June, unless it's the very last day of that month.
