I think Alfonso, John and Gary Oldman especially deserve their nominations. As small as Sirius' part was, Oldman really brought the 'madness within' to life.

Lol, yes he did play an excellent Sirius, and Alfonso was an absolutely brilliant director, if I do say so myself. The special effects were really amazing too, like the dementors and Buckbeak, for example.

Yeah and it's great that the Oscars recognised the wonderful effects too. I'm not so sure about writer and I doubt Dan will get that award he's nominated for because of the heavy competition with Freddie Highmore. I could see PoA losing out to ASOUE in the best fantasy film category. And although I love the costumes I think Phantom of the Opera would be tough to beat. The make-up was pretty spectacular, especially all the stuff they put on Thewlis for his transformations scenes and the way they made Sirius look all haggard, so I think PoA might win that too.

I don't think PoA will win comtumes. However, I do think they have a pretty fair chance at winning best music, the scoring of the film was brilliant.
