Default PoA DVD to help with Oscar nominations?

A column in The Hollywood Reporter, written by Martin Grove, discusses the use of DVD's and the screeners who view them in order to nominate films for the Academy Awards.

He says judges need to be able to view the films in their own time and at their own leisure and not just at a formal screening. The use of DVD's, he says, will enhance the chances for films like PoA to be nominated.

Quote:
Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" will arrive in DVD release Nov. 23. Here, too, we're looking at film with awards potential in areas like performances and special effects. Having the DVD right there to see will help "Azkaban." Among its special features are an interview with author J.K. Rowling and the filmmakers as well as a "Conjuring a Scene" featurette providing an in-depth look at how key scenes in the film were shot. It certainly won't hurt "Azkaban's" prospects for nominations by letting awards voters have access to all this additional information about the making of the movie.

POA was definitely the best of the HP films to date, as it is also the best of the books to date (if you ask me...). The effects are great (especially the Dementors, who thankfully aren't too much like the Nazgul), all the acting is great for once (it was often a bit wooden or bland in the first one, improved in the second), the direction was wonderful, and the music was terrific, especially the inspired usage of some odd jazz music (I can picture Lupin being a jazz fan, he seems the type-must be a Wizard record-player, though, as Muggle technology supposedly can't work on Hogwarts grounds...). All in all, I can see this one possibly winning an Oscar-for special effects at least. Personally, I'd like it to win others (especially as LOTR isn't an option this year), but we know that's not going to happen...probably.
