| | |  Order of the Phoenix DVD to include downloadable files
Warner Brothers Home Video today announced that downloadable files will be available on the Order of the Phoenix DVD. This will allow consumers to download the film to a PC or a portable device - W.B. is the first studio to marry physical media and downloads. Quote:
“You can buy the DVD and have the option of the digital copy,” said Wuthrich. “This future-proofs the format for consumers.”
The fifth movie is released on DVD (in various formats) in the U.K. on Nov. 12th & in the U.S. on Dec. 11th. | |

That is very good news but I read that you won't be able to get the movie to play on an iPod. This may be the first movie to have that kind of technology on the DVD. I believe the article said that this technology was paving the way to downloadable movies in kiosks instead of having to buy the DVD at the store. If studios didn't have to mass produce movies like they do now (at least in the numbers that they do now), they could afford to put more obscure movies out there. It would also make movies that are only available in, say, Europe available elsewhere in the world. Case in point - the movie "Dead Fish" with Gary Oldman was only released in Europe and plays in Region 2 format. That kind of sucks for those of us in North America that want to see it.
