Default Ollivander receives CBE from Queen

John Hurt who played Mr.Ollivander, the seller of wands, in the Harry Potter films, recently received a CBE from the British Queen for his 'services to drama' and commented that "Oh, there's nothing to be nervous about. I get nervous on a first night but you haven't got anything to prove here."

Quote:
Actor John Hurt was made a CBE by the Queen at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, saying it was a "very high compliment".
The Elephant Man and Alien star, 64, got the honour for services to drama.

"The Queen insinuated that it was an interesting profession and that I'd been at it for some time. She said how fascinating it was," he revealed.

Hurt shot to fame in 1970s TV show The Naked Civil Servant, which he said was his favourite role. He said: "That did it for me. It was a fantastic script."

On collecting his award, he said: "I've never done it before. It's a one-off. I'm very grateful and delighted."

But he said he was not worried before his palace date. "Oh, there's nothing to be nervous about," he said.

"I get nervous on a first night but you haven't got anything to prove here."

After The Naked Civil Servant, in which Hurt played flamboyant author Quentin Crisp, he went on to get Oscar nominations for Midnight Express and The Elephant Man.

He was nominated for a Bafta for 1979's science fiction classic Alien, in which a creature bursts out of his chest.

It's a part of the honours system which gives out accelaides acknowledging the achievements of British people in making the country a better place.

lol how is it not a service to the country? How would we be entertained if there were no actors and actresses? We wouldn't... there would be no tv, movies, music etc etc. Understand?

Well anyway, let him bask in his glory while he can.

For one it's a service because it boosts the country's profile through him doing oversee films. It gives young people someone to look up to. It improves the British Film Industry which in turn improves tourism and the profile of British Drama. It can also be for raising awareness for charities through being an actor. Also through film-making he is sort of a part of boosting the British economy.

It's alot of things but the article did say it was specifically for 'services to drama'.

Hmmm, good for him. I wonder if the CBE services for drama would kinda be like the honor given to americans by their hollywood star? But of course to be honored by the queen herself would be by far a million times better.

Yeah, that's a good comparison and I great way to help people understand what it means, well done!!! ^^

But, then again, an honour means you become Sir/Dame which is different to the stars on Hollywood Boulevard.
