[img]http://www.snitchseeker.com/images/news/ootp_80.gif' align='middle'> Norwegian translation on sale at last! - finally released here in Norway!

Summary:
Jalita and I, along with all the other Harry Potter fans living in Norway, can now pick up a copy of Order of the Phoenix in Norwegian!

Article:

The translator was on a popular Norwegian talk show last night and talked a bit about how he translated the book. He said one of the most challenging parts was to come up with names that worked as well in Norwegian as in English.

Nearly all the names have been changed to make them sound better in Norwegian. And they are so wonderfully translated, you'd think it was written for Norwegian rather than a translation of an English book!

Another cool fact is that this guy (sorry, I forgot his name - somebody help me out here if you know!) also translated the Lord of the Rings books to Norwegian. He is absolutely the master of translating fantasy books.

Go out and get your copy today!

The cover is the same as the American version.

Here or not

Well, his name is Torstein Bugge Høverstad. And it is a matter of opinion if he is a good translator or not.

Also it is being released on Monday. 2 days to go. But very soon! I expect my little sister to go buy it then. Perhaps I will read it.

yeah it was as you said, først og sist.

I read the books in english, because I read it as i do norwegian. since I speak fluentely english, but ive read them in norwegian too,(the first 3 and half of 4 that is)
but the names ,yes they are greatly translated compared to other countries, but i still find it best to read the original, as i would find it confusing discussing here with u all and when seeing the movies, I'd be confused by the names. so i read the original. just as well when i can enough about that...

They got 125 000 copies here about 1.5 weeks ago of the OOP in norwegian, was on absolutt underholdning, so i bet people are going crazy now to buy it
I've got my copy a while ago, shiny yellow with the phoenix, as u all know is the english copy.

i'd show u all the names as they are in the norwegian books, but ahh..no time today.

ok one:

snape = slur

Norwegian people are lucky, we have to wait till february for the copy in spanish.
Althought the books are selling pretty good here taking into account that you have to pay before hand to have them shipped from the states, and considering they are very expensive, and in english, and people here don't read even in spanish, to have people reading a long book (although not long enough for me) in another idiom is some kind of a miracle.
Still, i see the copies in German, and french and almost anyother idiom, come before the spanish version, why is that?, is spanish more difficult to translate the book to?.

I don't know, but it depends on how swift the translator is and how he works. Also I know that Spanish is a language that is not as straight forward as English, so you have to use more words to express somthing (Acording to Shakira) and that is maybe why it takes so long: he must try to translate it and find ways to say things without letting it get to long. Just a though...

for any norwegians here this article is in VG today about the translator, he only got 2 months to do it!! hehe. he's good! i translated some lines for you in bold)

Gompekongen av rumpeldunk(quidditch)=the muggleking of quidditch (gomp=muggle)

MORSOM JOBB: (FUN JOB)
- Oversettelsen av Potter-bøkene er en av de artigste jobbene jeg har hatt, sier Torstein Bugge Høverstad, som bare fikk to måneder på seg til å oversette den siste boka som kommer ut på norsk i morgen.
Foto: Robert S. Eik
(he says its one of the most funniest jobs he has ever had)

Torstein Bugge Høverstad er mannen bak «rumpeldunk» og «gomper». Harry Potter-oversetteren er glad for populariteten, men ikke for kommersen rundt.
LILLIAN BIKSET

Han fikk bare to måneder på å oversette den siste Harry Potter-boka, som er nesten 900 sider.

Til tross for at engelsk manus var ferdig lenge før, fikk ingen av oversetterne teksten før leserne, og dermed ble det jobbing dag og natt for Torstein Bugge Høverstad. (non of the translator couldnt get their hands on the text before the readers)

- Det var bare noe de gjorde for å hausse opp oppmerksomheten. Boka skulle være uberørt av menneskehånd, sier han.

Krevde rettigheter
Det er ikke første gang han blir presset av Potter-kommersen. Han måtte gi fra seg rettighetene til de norske navnene, og får ikke ei krone når de blir brukt i filmer eller på T-skjorter.
(he dont get a penny for whenever the norwegian names in the HP books is used in movies,on t shirts,in commercials etc..he had to give up the rights for what HE translated)

- Et rent diktat fra Warner. Skrev jeg ikke under, ville ikke Damm fått oversette flere bøker til norsk. Jeg skrev under, mot kompensasjon, sier han.(he wouldnt get to ranslate more books from warner bros if he didnt sign, which meant giving u all rights to the norwegian names HE has come up with)
Når det er sagt, er all kritikk forbi. Han får betalt mer enn vanlig for å oversette Potter-bøkene og trives med jobben.
(he gets paid tons for translating the HP books)

- Normalt er målet å oversette så umerkelig som mulig. Men ikke her. Jeg prøver å finne navn som gjengir meningen. «Gomper», for eksempel, som er ordet for umagiske mennesker, det er som «muggles» et lite brukt dialektord for denne her, sier han, og dasker seg selv på baken.
(normally he tries to come up with words that is so weird as he possible can think of,but not in the HP books, here he thinks of names that is a jour to the story, of meaning)

Like spent som andre
- Hva tror du skjer i de neste bøkene?

- Jeg er like spent som alle andre. Joanne K. Rowling har gjort fallhøyden høy. Bøkene har kvaliteter som kan gjøre dem til klassikere. Samtidig har de trekk fra den enkle underholdningslitteraturen. Om bokserien blir klassisk eller ikke, blir avgjort av de siste to bøkene. Blir de overflatiske eller dype? Jeg håper på sistnevnte, og det er spor som tyder på at det er slik det går. (he says he is so excited as the rest of us, that JK has laid up a pretty big expectation, cause of the massive quality of the story)

- I den siste boka er han ikke bare helt? (in OOTP he is not only the hero?)
- Nei! Jeg ble nesten lei av gutten, sånn som han syter. Så sint og sur og testosteronbefengt har jeg glemt at jeg selv en gang har vært, sier Bugge Høverstad.

(he got abit mad at harry in OOTP, cause of his anger and complaining, and you know the story there) lol. and he is really excited to find out about the HP world as the rest of us)

Hey, nice job on the translating!

Thanks for doing it too!

For those that wonder, this was in the paper edition of the VG newspaper, so we don't have a link to the orginal.

If any site takes this, please credit Miss_Potter and SnitchSeeker.

Thanks!
