Post No demand for Potter e-books

ABC Entertainment News has an article about popular novels being turned into e-books. It mentions the fact that, as of yet, there are no digital Potter novels. Various sources explain why.

Quote:
Neil Blair, a lawyer with Rowling's literary agency, would only say that "this has not been an area that we have sought to license" and did not comment directly on whether pirated e-books, a common phenomena for Potter titles, were hurting sales.

"We monitor the Internet and take appropriate action," Blair says.
Quote:
"I didn't think then, and I don't think now, that there is a cool enough or interesting enough hardware to get the kids engaged," says Barbara Marcus, president of the children's books division of Rowling's U.S. publisher, Scholastic, Inc.
Quote:
Many believe Potter would be a huge hit in the digital format, where even a few thousand copies is considered a best seller.

"I'm sure it would be a very big book very quickly and would probably serve as a terrific marketing vehicle to get people to buy the print book," says Nicholas Bogaty, executive director of the Open eBook Forum.
The entire article can be read here.

I agree with everyone else, I'd rather have the real deal!

I don't think an e-book will make the demand for the real thing any greater. I think if anything, it would work the other way around. *shrugs*

Technically technical all the time Bookaholic

I wouldn't mind having a copy of the Potter novels in e-book format to carry around with me everywhere in my PDA or laptop(it isn't really practical to lug around all the books all the time). However, I can see why they wouldn't bother with e-books as it's obvious from the posts people have made in this thread so far that most fans could care less about them (all pirating and other issues aside).
