| | | Nintendo Power on GoF
In Nintendo Power, a magazine dedicated to the Gameboys and Gamecubes, there's an article on the GoF Harry Potter video game under the section called "Not Lost in Translation".
The section is about turning film franchises into an interactive hit. This is what they had to say on Potter.
"EA has always been quick to say that its Harry Potter adventures have been interpretations of J.K. Rowling's books - not direct adaptations of the film. While that may seem like splitting hairs, the difference was obvious in last year's Prisoner of Azkaban, in which the game's robe-wearing wizard in training looked prepubescent compared to the film's rapidly aging teenager.
For Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (due out with the film this November), the game makers are moving closer to the cinemetic interpretation of Potter's adventures, featuring a story that follows the film script and the likenesses of the actors in their film roles.
'The audience takes its cues from the movie,' says producer Justin Manning. 'They see Harry Potter as Daniel Radcliffe. So hey, why wouldn't we?'
Both games span the entire story, from the appearance of Death Eaters at the Quidditch World Cup campsite to the face-off with Voldemort in the graveyard."

I think that it is a good thing that the game makers are going to make the characters in the game seem similar to the actors in the film because most people will buy the game thinking that they are going to see a cg version of daniel or rupert, etc. This is a good move for Nintendo as far as game sales go because now more copies of the game are likely to be sold which is a good thing since Nintendo hasnt really released any major games lately.

I have mixed feelings about this. I like that COS and POA follow the books more and it's good that the characters will look more like the actors in the movie, and from that the only physical manifestation of the characters we currently have, but I am not pleased that the game will be following the movie script more, there are a lot of things in the books that could be put in the game but not necessarily into the movie. On the topic of Nintendo and good video games: I really wish they'd re-release the classic Mario Bros. games for Game cube.

Ooh. Cool. I just want to buy all those Harry Potter games for my GCN. Except that I have the PS/SS game for PC. But that doesn't count. I still want'em.

I liked it when they followed the book; like PS had Hermione brewing the potions or something. It's also great to see Hermione's a brunette again; in the PoA game she was blonde!

Yeah I have all the games right now (excepting GOF) but I get into the games a little too much. Ask Ganymede about it. I start hyperventalating and have to take breaks in between challenges.
