| | |  New Rupert Grint Interview
French Magazine, One, feature a new interview with Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) in their March 2005 issue. Thanks to Ron at Le Coin Ensorcelé de Harry Potter we have copies of the scans.
The English translation to the article can be read here.
Please note, the interview does sound slightly odd because of the way in which it had to be translated.
The interview was most likely conducted around the time of either the film or DVD launch for PoA - Rupert has since finished school after completing his GCSE's last Summer. Quote:
All of his friends will tell you that Rupert Grint is a charming boy; his sole fault is a tendency to be lazy.
Quote: For quite a while, you've had longer hair than usual. What motivated you to change your look?
Nothing at all; it's just my natural laziness! [laughs] After Prisoner of Azkaban shooting, I was simply too lazy to go hairdresser. When the producers saw my new cut, they demanded that I keep it for Goblet of Fire. They thought that it was similar to Ron's personality. This decision is fine with me, since I never was fond of cutting my hair!
Quote: Daniel Radcliffe hates to see himself on-screen. Do you?
No, not at all. I'll go and watch past films easily enough. For example, I watched Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone a bit ago and found it quite entertaining! The only thing I thought was a bit strange was hearing my voice before it changed. I found that rather unbearable! [laughs]
Quote: And, usually, which type of roles would you like to play in the movies?
I would very much like to play the roles that are the opposite of that of Ron. Roles of crazy people like serial killers, for example. [laughs] But I think I might be too young for that.
Quote: What would you like to happen to Ron in the next Harry Potter book?
I hope that he finally plays Quidditch! Dan [Radcliffe] often tells me that the Quidditch scenes are very difficult to shoot, but I don't care! Quidditch looks so cool on screen.
Quote: What do you think will happen in regard to Ron's love life?
At the moment, I have no desire to play the romantic scenes. I already had a lot of trouble with certain scenes in Prisoner of Azkaban in which I had to hold Emma's hand, then be embarrassed.
Which is kind of fitting because Ron is meant to be romantically awkward, so it's sort of a good thing Rupert's like that too. Quote: Have you always wanted to be an actor?
If I wasn't an actor, I'd love to be a designer. Drawing is one of my favorite pastimes. I love animated movies and TV shows, especially Spongebob.
Remember that cariacture of Alan Rickman which he got caught drawing? Rickman then asked to keep it so he must be good at it! Quote: - He got stuck on Chapter 3 and has yet to finish Order of the Phoenix (yet another testament to his laziness, he says)
- He hasn't decided whether or not he'll stay on board for the Order of the Phoenix movie
- He wants to be a designer
- He wants to play a serial killer in a movie

Sometimes reading them can do damage 'cause you could decide to play the character the way you want to and not the way the story tells you to, if you catch my drift. Apart from the too frequent 'coward'Ron! moments, he's pretty much got Ron sussed. The mistakes are down to the script in his case. Ron is not a scaredy cat!

Again true, Ruperts playing a Ron thats not influenced or kinda spoilt by other ppls expectations. I couldnt imagine anyone doing it any different or better than what he's produced in the films.

I really hope Rupert does OotP bcoz there's a new screenwriter: Michael Goldenberg, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll finally see canon Ron in the movies -- and no one else but Rupert should do it bcoz after a long time, he will finally have a chance to play the "real" Ron.
And Ron plays a bigger more important part in OotP -- he becomes Prefect and Gryffindor goal keeper -- I'd love to see Rupert finally becoming Ron of the books.

This makes me really wish I knew Rupert, he seems like a very nice, casual person.
If Rupert decides not to do OotP I will be very upset, he's a wonderful Ron, and he has made a sort of mold for the next 'Ron' (lord forbid). He will never live down the fact that he was Ronald Weasley in the Harry Potter films. Not that its a bad title, but after awhile it must be annoying hearing people calling you 'Ron' instead of 'Rupert'.......

Agree with wheezy's gal too. I dunno who else looked at the poster but at the bottom it says (in French): "I don't really like school and most of the time I end up not doing my homework." Interesting choice of quote to put on his picture... Aww, Rupert. I really do hope they give him more of a range. And it's nice to see he'd rather be friends with Emma and therefore feels awkward holding her hand
