| | |  New Mary GrandPre Interview
Following the release of the cover art for the ' Half Blood Prince', of which Grandpre designed the US cover, Mary has done an interview with the Tampa Tribune discussing her role in the series. Quote:
"It doesn't arrive by mail. They're more careful with their manuscript than that,'' she says. "Let's just call it a special delivery.''
Quote:
GrandPre has about two months to read the book, come up with a concept for the cover, get final approval from the book's art director and complete the finished works. That includes her pastel drawings for both covers and the inside flap, as well as the smaller charcoal sketches that start each chapter.

"It's such a high-pressure job,'' says GrandPre. "I drop everything I'm doing.''

Although they've met, and the author sees GrandPre's sketches before they go to print, she and Rowling don't discuss the art directly.
"She's been really appreciative of the work and really agreeable - I think there's a level of trust that's been built up by now,'' GrandPre says. "I'd like to talk to her more because she's an interesting woman - and I'd like to tell her how much I enjoy her writing.''

"A movie is just a movie - it's all about special effects,'' she says. "Books are more pure to me. A book lets you finish the picture in your head, and a movie can't do that - it's got to be lots of bang for your buck.''

"I didn't have any models around - I think I had a day or two to do this - so I just used a big mirror and drew my face, and changed some of the features to look like a 14-year-old boy,'' GrandPre says. "So Harry's face is born from my face.''

"I see the story as being one that appeals to anybody, all ages, so I think the cover should do the same thing,'' GrandPre says. "I think it should be more about what kind of magic you bring to the cover and what kind of mood you can create.''

Funny enough I never eally noticed she looked like harry on the cover until i read the article!  i totally agree with it being high pressure, especially now since sooooo many people are into HP and wait for the cover to come out in hope of the slightest information that it might give away.
Wasn't it that amazon said that they already had over 100,000 copies pre-ordered, I wold be sooo stressed to have that many people looking at my artwork anyway.

Wow... she's awesome! I want HER job! But wait, not really, it is a high pressured job. I mean, reading the whole entire book in 2 months, AND making the cover, AND the sketch for each chapter?? Never mind.... She can keep her job... I'll just be jealous that she gets to read it before anyone else and she got to meet JKR.

Ohh...that was a very plesant interview....I am glad she likes her works and isn't just doing it for whatever....i am glad to hear she is still doing the chapter sketches as well. yes.
