| | | New Interview with Emma Watson
A new scan from a French Magazine interview Emma Watson did has recently appeared on Emma-Watson.net.
Thanks to fairladyHermione we have a translation:
In "The Prisoner of Azkaban" movie, Hermione comes back better than ever, determined to be involved in the complicated adventures of her friend, Harry. On the other hand, Emma watson is in a great shape too. More and more at ease with her character (well, it's not exactly the sentence, but it's quite similar), the actress has confided to us her feelings about the movie, revealing a little funny anecdote about a certain slap... How old were you when you decided to become an actress?
One day, when I was 3 years old my grand-mother filmed me with her camcorder and asked me what I wanted to do later. I fixedly stared at the lens and aswered her, " I'd like to be a princess, a fairy or an actress". So, my desire to be an actress is very old, but I'm glad to see that one of these 3 dreams came true... Thanks to Harry Potter, you're famous in the whole world. In what way has it changed your life?
Well, when I'm not on the HP set, my life is not so different of mine before becoming famous. Thare are obviously interviews and photos, but, for the rest, I live an ordinary live of a teenager. I still live with my parents and I must still hoover when my mother asks me, empty the dish-washer and tidy my room. Whatever I try to do to escape these chores, it doesn't work! [laughs] . However, Stardom helped me to do one thing: to meet my favorite stars. Thus, I could chat a while with Brad Pitt, this is what I dreamed of for many years. I was so happy!! How was your collaboration with Alfonso Cuaron, the director of "The Prisoner of Azkaban" movie? Was it better or less good than with Chris Columbus?
I think it was neither better nor less bad, but just different. One thing is sure, I'm delighted that Alfonso has directed this movie. It allowed me to learn a lot of things, discover new techniques of shooting, another way of work. It was really interesting. In what way was it different from Chris Colombus's one?
Alfonso let us a lot more of freedom about the interpretation of our character. He wanted us to be involved very much (it's not the real sentence but I can't find the real words, so, I interpreted it...), to suggest things. Before shooting a scene, he always asked our opinion about the way of acting. He told us "so, how do you see these things, what do you imagine on this plan? I warn you, I'm not going to say you how to do. It must come from you, the way you feel all the things, in function of your own feelings". Then, I felt I was more involved in my character and I think it helped me to grow as an actress. For you, what shot of "The Prisoner of Azkaban" was the most difficult to shoot?
I'd say it's the one where we enter the Shrieking House for the first time. For me, this one is indisputebly one of the most awe-inspiring of the movie. The shooting lasted about 1 month and we had to take so many shots. It was very complex and then, in the end we were totally tired. But the result is really great. I dont think fans will be disappointed. I've been told a lot about the scene in which Hermione punches Malfoy. How did it happen?
I just loved the scene! Even if I have, of course, nothing against Tom [Felton], I asked to do supplementary shots, just for the fun of slapping him! [laughs]. Nevertheless, there's no need for him to complain, he doesn't feel anything! It's called the magic of cinema... Thanks to HP, you acted with several well-known actors. What did you learn from them?
Actually, I think that all these great actors helped me more to grow on a personal side than as an actress. For example, I have been really impressed by Emma Thompson's attitude, who plays Professor Trelawney. She's simply unbelievable. Even if she's a huge international star, she's very modest. When she arrived for the first time on the movie set, she introduced herself to every member of the team, saying she was delighted to be working on this movie. I thought it was very elegant of her. I'd like to have the same career as her and stay as humble and close as she is. |

I think that Emma gives decent interviews. I just wish the directors wouldn't let her on her own too much or be too liberal with the freedom of playing Hermione, because she has taken her character quite a bit off course. The film Hermione and the book Hermione are like two completely different characters.

I am so glad she has time to be a real girl and do real things...like chores. People become famous and they don't do the little things (although doing chores sucks) and all sorts of values and morals get lost, plus if she doesn't be a teenager, she most likely will regret it in the furture. Good for Emma.

There's also something wrong/disturbing about her referring to Hermione as her character, when technically she's a whole new Hermione and the true one is owned by JK and resides only in the books.

Whats the girl gonna do though?
I mean honestly, how many of us REALLY know what Hermione is like? Until the movie came out, we all had our own Hermione with characteristics that varied on how we saw her. If that was how Emma found Hermione, then the only thing that matters is that she did her best and we ought to respect her personal interpretation.
Besides, Hermione does rock and roll in the third book. She doesn't puch Malfoy like she did in the movie but she does slap him. And the movie is tend to exaggerate more.

I agree with you guys, Hermione in the books is far more down to earth and has a strong influence over both Ron and Harry, however Emma, although she is a fantastic actress has sort of distorted Hermione as a character, and it is rather disturbing for her to say Hermione is her character...

I have nothing against Emma as a person, but as "Hermione" I don't like her much. She is completely different in the movies than how she is supposed to be. Take movie #1, THAT is how Hermione is supposed to be: the Bushy haired know-it-all, always having a book around, bossing Harry and Ron around. Where did that Hermione go? I miss her.
