Post New Half-Blood Prince behind-the-scenes photo in movie marketing article

A new article discusses the decline in DVD sales recently, including those for the Harry Potter movies. There is a new photo of David Yates and Jim Broadbent (Slughorn) from Half-Blood Prince attached, which can be seen here, as well as remarks about the vigorous marketing for the sixth film.

Quote:
"To keep it fresh, we used all these wonderful moments in the movie -- the trials and tribulations of growing up, these new environments and the urgency of Harry trying to discover more information about who he is and what led to his parents' death," said Sue Kroll, Warner Bros. president of worldwide marketing.

To let audiences know that "Half-Blood Prince" is distinct, Kroll said, the marketing campaign was designed to feel "more contemporary, a little bit more in your face."

Maybe people are just a little bit more wary of buying DVDs when they know that Blu-ray will replace them soon.
More marketing will just increase the amount of the film that I will have seen before I get there. And I'm not sure that's a good thing.
I am a little creeped out by Jim Broadbents stare.

while i'm surpised at the fall in HP dvds. I can't say i'm surprised in general. Why do we want to own entire tv series and every film that comes out. Many must only be watched once, or not at all.

I think this article is about a decline in dvd sales in general...not just the HP dvds.

I know I'm going to buy the HBP dvd when it comes out, but I want to see the movie first!!! I have 3 copies of OOTP (i still can't figure out how that happened), but I think alot of people haven't purchased the Harry Potter dvds because they're waiting for all 8 films to be released in a set.

For a series like this waiting until the whole set is out makes sense, however there are people out there who will only buy the movies they like, or just rent them from Blockbuster or Netflix instead of investing a whole lot of $$ in DVDs
Blu-ray are just HD DVDs and until everyone in the world has a Blu-ray DVD player and a HDTV there will be regular and Blu-ray DVDs

I really don't think that a decline in DVD sales is that much of a surprise... I mean, most people who would want to buy the movies probably did so when they first came out. Why would you buy like three copies?

I'll buy it because it's got...

...Special Features!!

And because I own all the HP movies that have been released...I like locking myself in the house and having HP marathons with loads of marshmellows, ice cream sandwiches and apple juice!

I'll certainly be buying HBP when it comes out.If it's in time for christmas, though,it's going to be on 'The List'

I guess with the economy the way it is people are not spending so much on things they don't need, just essential stuff. You can't really class DVD's as essential.

And I agree....Jim looks hella creepy in that pic!

Marine Wife!

I am not shocked in the decline in DVD sales bc we are very wary of buying some, but we have all of the HP DVDs and will purchase another set bc our 4 year old has taken over the ones we own now!! LOL

No, I think they mean about the emotions they go through during the movie...like Harry trying to figure out who he is.

Boring pic...though Jim's kinda scary there.

They mean so people don't go "Oh no, another Harry Potter?!"

I have to say, I love owning DVDs. They're probably my favourite thing to purchase (after clothes). Both films and television box sets.

DVDs that have just been released are often stupidly expensive (about £15). I mostly buy ones that have been out for a few years and are reduced to between £3-£5.
