| | | New GoF pictures & interview Entertainment Weekly has a new feature on Harry Potter including new images from the ' Goblet of Fire' film and an interview with the director, Mike Newell. There is also an interview with David Heyman in which he discusses ' Order of the Phoenix'. Harry on the front cover of EW Harry by the Riddle grave Harry in the Owlery Mike Newell directing Dan Radcliffe The champions on a GoF sticker book Ron, Hermione & Harry on a sticker book The interview with Mike Newell Quote: Goblet has some extravagant set pieces, including a Quidditch World Cup match and a wizarding tournament between Hogwarts and two rival schools that involves a dragon, a killer hedge maze, and an undersea kingdom. How did you handle that last one?
Dan [Radcliffe] and the other children involved had to do two seemingly simple things: keep their eyes open and their faces mobile enough to express emotion.
They're fish, you see — they've been magically given gills, so they can breathe. So there could be none of that ''screwing up your face and looking panicky because you're running out of air'' stuff. You had 12 seconds before we had to send people down with air masks. We were limited to extraordinarily short stretches of time for each take.
Quote: You tapped Ralph Fiennes for Voldemort. Why?
I wanted Voldemort to be a tremendously charismatic man, and Ralph has tremendous charisma. I wanted to have someone who was entirely cold in his heart, and I knew Ralph could do that very well from Schindler's List. And he's a star. He has all the presence and command that a star has. That is very useful for this part. You can't have an undercooked Voldemort.
Quote: One of the reasons producer David Heyman wanted you for the job was because you were British, and therefore familiar with the nuances of British school life.
For the other directors, it was research; for me, it was instinct. But it was more than that. It's my view that children are violent, dirty, corrupt anarchists. Just adults-in-waiting. I was very anxious to break [the franchise] out of this Goody Two-shoes feel.
There was one scene where two characters have to fight. They simply weren't fighting the way I knew they could fight. So I said, ''Which one of you wants to fight me?'' One finally volunteered, and we started to fight, and he was still pulling his punches. I said, ''Don't do that!'' So I banged his head on the floor and he banged mine, and we got there. I got up from that with a banged rib.
The interview with David Heyman Quote:
''It's important to ground these movies in reality,'' says Heyman, who'd been itching to work with Yates for years. ''With Harry's world on the precipice of war, I wanted a director that will make that feel true. And David can.''
Quote:
Officially, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson haven't signed on for the new sequel — yet. ''We're finalizing that now. But it's certainly our intention to have them back,'' says Heyman, who declined to elaborate.

Very interesting, I like the pictures. Especially the graveyard one.
I hope that they keep Dan, Emma and Rupert for all 7 movies.
If they don't it will just not be right. Now when I read the books, those are the faces that I see. I truly hope that they will keep the actors for the remaining 3 movies.

Very interesting read. I need to pick that up... heh.
The pic of Harry by Riddle's grave seems more... er, like a pose. Doesn't really look like an image from the actual movie.
I wonder what Mike Newell is talking about with the fight. lol And is he nuts? Wizards wouldn't fight like Muggles! *shrugs* Guess we'll just have to see on that one...
It sounds like they have the trio nearly re-signed because they wouldn't be doing the "finalization" if they weren't. But we know Dan is already wanting back, and Rupert has said he wants to continue on as Ron. It's just Emma who hasn't said anything.

Just before anyone else brings this up...yes, there is a name mistake on the grave. There should be no Tom Marvolo Riddle on the tombstone. Those who have read HBP will know this...
Great pics, all around though. I really can't wait until I can see the finished movie.

| I'm really liking the shot of harry by Riddle's Grave. Omfg, I just realized that I'm gonna be freaking old by the time OoTP comes out!!!!! NOOOOO!!!!
I just can't wait for the GoF, because it is so far, my favorite book in the series. It's a turning point, and I just love the book and can't wait to see how it comes out on the big-screen.
Wasn't Viktor Krum supposed to be big and ugly looking? Well...not ugly, but kinda intimidating and huge? The way the book describes him, makes it seem like he's not a sight to see, but....HE IS SOOOOO HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I may just buy the sticker book for the stickers of him and cedric! |

They would and they do! Remember Lucius and Arthur in CoS? That was hysterical. Kids probably would because using spells out of class could get them into worse trouble then say punching someone and busting a nose. Sounds like he was trying to get Dan and Rupert (I presume) hyped up for the nastiness between their characters. Wonder which one volunteered to take on Newell. Quote:

Yup, because Marvolo is a name from Voldemort's mother's side of the family. And the grave is for the grandparents and father. I think. Quote:

Mistakes can't be solely blamed on the director. He has thousands of things to do.

They used their own names for the tombstones and all. They probably didn't know that Tom Riddle Sr.'s middle name wasn't Marvolo. After all, we had thought that You-Know-Who was named directly after his father until HBP came out. So it's an honest mistake, though one that is sure to get under die-hard fans' skin.

Good point Alex. GoF wrapped several months BEFORE the release of HBP so the producers weren't to know any better. Still, they should've known never to make assumptions in the world of Rowling.
