| | | New FAQ Poll on JK's Website
JK has updated her site once again to present us with a new FAQ poll.
As usual, the voters' choice is between 3 questions: Quote:
1) Will Harry continue to learn Occlumency, whether it's with Snape or somebody else, in 'Half-Blood Prince'?
2) Is that the Pensieve on the U.S. cover, or something else?
3) So how DO the members of the Order of the Phoenix communicate with each other?
Go vote now!

Someone on SS once pointed out exactly how they communicate; it's that silvery thing that looks like a phoenix and once shot out of Dumbledore's wand from Hagrid's Hut.
I think it's quite obvious the cover is a pensive.
So the only question worth asking, IMO, is the first one. But even then it's sort of obvious Harry's going to need to improve his skills even though he successfully did it with Snape once when he penetrated the teacher's mind. EDIT: The third question is winning at 59% *grumbles and scurries off to find the explanation she read* EDIT #2: Eureka! I found it! This is how the Order may communicate. Read the passage, especially the bolded bit, it makes sense. Therefore please vote for another question!
JK said we knew about this communication method BEFORE we knew the Order existed ("You saw the Order’s method of communication in use even before you knew about the existence of the Order; it was employed by an Order member.")
This passage is from BOOK FOUR, before we knew the order existed. And it was used by Dumbledore AN ORDER MEMBER! It meets the criteria! (GoF, Chapter 28, The Madness of Crouch) Quote:
"Stunned," he said softly. His half-moon glasses glittered in the wandlight as he peered around at the surrounding trees.
"Should I go and get someone?" said Harry. "Madam Pomfrey?"
"No," said Dumbledore swiftly. "Stay here." He raised his wand into the air and pointed it in the direction of Hagrid's cabin. Harry saw something silvery dart out of it and streak away through the trees like a ghostly bird. Then Dumbledore bent over Krum again, pointed his wand at him, and muttered, "Ennervate."
Krum opened his eyes. He looked dazed. When he saw Dumbledore, he tried to sit up, but Dumbledore put a hand on his shoulder and made him lie still.
"He attacked me!" Krum muttered, putting a hand up to his head. "The old madman attacked me! I vos looking around to see vare Potter had gone and he attacked from behind!"
"Lie still for a moment," Dumbledore said.
The sound of thunderous footfalls reached them, and Hagrid came panting into sight with Fang at his heels. He was carrying his crossbow.

Actually I'd say that all three are ...
I can't remember who (was it Hagrid) who shot a silver dust thing up in the air in GoF so that must be how they comunicate...
A pensieve - It looks like one...
Occlumency - Dumbledore said it didn't matter in the end after all... EDIT: Ok thanks Ems!
I chose the first one - I find it interesting that she still mentions Snape and Occlumency...I always pressumed he would never do it again...

So the only thing worth voting for then may be confirmation of the pensieve? Thanks Sniv, I thought Dumbledore might have had said Occlumency may be redudant.

Maybe she's just mentioning it hoping people will choose that.
This is the way I think she could answer the questions.
1) No
2) Yes
3) A small explanation which gives confirmation of suspicions but enough information to tide some people over.
Maybe she put question 3 up for grabs knowing that action may be featured in the film and therefore she may aswell tell us? One thing's for sure, the woman baffles me. I'm going mad trying to suss her motives for putting up those particular questions.

^well I voted for the first one because I'm pretty sure it is a pensieve on the cover...
I'm curious as to why JK would bring up Occlumency again that's why I voted for that...Because I thought it was not that important anymore...but maybe it will turn out to be since she made it an option....

*hides* Eep, I actually voted for the 3rd one because I really didn't know which to vote for. I mean, they all seem pretty obvious to me.
I could of course vote again on my other computer.
About question #1, she may just give us a downright "No." which is the reason I didn't vote for it. I mean, if Harry's going to be pracitising with someone else, I highly doubt she's going to tell us who it is. Unless she's in a very generous mood. OR, unless the FAQ poll is answered on the 16th of July.

Of course there could be another way the Order comunicate it's just...well

I voted for question 3. I liked the third question because it confirms suspicions--without giving away something pivotal in the story. Besides, I don't really care if that is or isn't a pensieve on that cover (so I don't care about the 2nd question). And I want to know as little as possible about Harry's schooling until I get my hands on the next book (which nixes the first question). She can explain why Harry did or didn't take occlumency later, as far as I'm concerned (I'd rather know why than if).

ooohh thanks for info...I want to know if it's the Pensieve, because I want the Occlumency one to be a surprise, and I think I know how they communicate. |

I picked #3, I thought it might have been the mirrors at first but...
Interesting passage from GoF, I swear I've never seen that before. I must have skimmed over the whole paragraph every time I read. Bizarre.

It can't be the mirrors. In the Rumors section on JKR's site, she said it only requires a wand and that we saw an Order member implement it. Not only did we learn about the mirrors after we learned about the Order, a mirror is more than only a wand. Excellent theory without that information, though.

I'd rather have complete confirmation about the US cover. We could totally be wrong. It looks like it, but what if we're thrown a curve ball? The first question is so obvious. I didn't know the third one, but it wasn't exactly important to me. LOL But I'm sure one of the stupid questions will win. They always do!
I mean, I didn't care about Mark Evans. I knew people were being stupid about it.
The Neville thing was so easy. I wanted to know about Ron!
And I'm sure now, the question about the US cover isn't winning because everyone is assuming that it's a pensieve. It probably is, but...

I would rather learn about the other powers of the Phoenix. Nobody can apparate into or disapparate from Hogwarts. Yet, in OotP, Dumbledore, holding on to Fawkes, manages to disappear or travel by some trick (probably due to the Phoenix and not Dumbledore).

You would of thought that hp fans would vote for open questions i.e how and why, rather than closed questions which you can only get yes or no answers.
Kind of restricted to the first two questions since Marcella has explained her theory on communication between ootp members - which i completely agree with by the way
As long as JK puts in more explaination into her answer if she replies to one of the first two questions, then i'm quite happy |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Ottery St. Catchpole Third Year | I've got a question...why torture us like this...*starts to cry* Paris & Kellybear r luv :Read Otty 's fics:Gone With the Wind:I♥Rupert I voted for the first question which is coming in second to the already know the answer question three. Pity that...Like when I wanted to know for sure if Percy was working for Dumbledore in secret... But anyways...if that stupid pensieve question wins I'm having a cow...seriously. What else could it be? A time machine? We already know Harry's going to find out about his parents in book 6... A well...whichever one she answers we're not going to understand what she says anyways...she's purposely vague...*shrugs* so get here already July 16.

It makes sense. He's on all the covers and Harry needs to do it in order for Voldemort not to penetrate his mind. I doubt that would be something she'd drop...
I personally didn't realize the answer to question number 3, but I didn't care. Who cares? LOL I'm sure it's some clever way and it is... we know the answer. We should go to every HP site and explain the answer to them so that that one doesn't win any more. lol Quote: But anyways...if that stupid pensieve question wins I'm having a cow...seriously. "What if we're wrong?" In all fairness, I'd rather know what's happening on the deluxe edition rather than the US regular edition...

I voted for number 1 because I think it's the most important issue to what Harry's 6th year will be like - and I already knew that the Order communicates with the silvery thing from the wand.
I think Harry will do more Occlumency lessons - but I'd love for JKR to answer that one as long and windy as she answered the Neville FAQ Poll question!
