Post New Burrow scene added in Half-Blood Prince, Australian release date confirmed

In an interview with Australia's Herald Sun, producer David Barron admitted that a new scene - which was not written in the sixth book - has been added for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film.

David explains the scene - which takes place at the Burrow - without giving too much away:

Quote:
"But this was brought in because Jo (Rowling) was able throughout the quite lengthy book to keep dropping little snippets of what was happening in the outside world - there'd be people reading newspapers and talking about how somebody's parents had been killed, or somebody had been withdrawn from school because their parents didn't think it was safe.

And we're making aware that the Muggle world is also experiencing these disasters, but thinks they are disasters rather than the work of Voldemort.

The book is peppered with those moments, but we couldn't do that quite so easily in the film.

So (the extra scene) comes in the middle of the film and it just reminds us the world is no longer a safe place. Even in what would normally be considered the safe haven of the Burrow, nobody's safe.

I think you'll like it. It's quite effective."

Half-Blood Prince
releases in Australia on December 11th.

‘Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince’ Strays From Book, Adds Scene
3 Comments | Published by Shawn Adler on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 2:08 pm.
In a recent interview with the “Herald Sun,” “Harry Potter” producer David Baron revealed details of an extra scene to be inserted into “Half-Blood Prince,” generally good news for fans of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy epic.

So why does his explanation make me hotter than a Hungarian Horntail? (Warning: Book Seven spoilers ahead)

It’s not just because the scene, which Barron says will take place at the Burrow, isn’t from the book. Baron states, and I of course acknowledge, that certain things from a novel don’t necessarily translate to film – it’s the nature of any adaptation. That means sometimes things have to be added and, truthfully, this particular quandary seems as good a candidate as any.

“Jo (Rowling) was able throughout the quite lengthy book to keep dropping little snippets of what was happening in the outside world - there’d be people reading newspapers and talking about how somebody’s parents had been killed, or somebody had been withdrawn from school because their parents didn’t think it was safe,” Baron explains. “And we’re making aware that the Muggle world is also experiencing these disasters…This was brought in because even in what would normally be considered the safe haven of the Burrow, nobody’s safe.”

Fine. Agreed. No, what makes me mad is that this added scene, if it’s indeed an attack on the Burrow from Death Eaters, will almost certainly be a detriment to a similar scene – a much more powerful and important scene – at the beginning of Book 7, when the Burrow actually is attacked for the first time DURING A WEDDING.

When Kingsley’s patronus lands smack in the middle of Bill and Fleur’s nuptials, I nearly lost my breath. So why would they have an attack scene at the Burrow in the preceding film? My great fear is that it’s because there won’t be a wedding at all. Last week, Clémence Poésy told MTV News that she won’t be appearing in “Half-Blood Prince.” Could it be that she’s not appearing in “Deathly Hallows” either?

I’m all for adding scenes – heck, I want each “Potter” film to be three hours long – but not at the expense of actual story.

But what do you guys think? Do you like the added scene? Would you like it more or less if it was indeed an attack by Death Eaters on the Burrow? Sound off below.

i actually thought the idea at first was good of adding another scene, but after reading this article, I must agree it will take away from the 7th film.

I've read what is SUPPOSEDLY the scene, and....it's not bad, if it's true.

heart Love Rupert, it's good for your health.

Normally I would whine and complain about destroying the integrity of the book in film, but film is an inferior product and thus needs all the help it can get, and another Burrow scene can only mean more Rupert right? One would hope. *madglompsRupert* So yay!

Oh I can't wait!!!! I wonder who gets attacked at the Burrow!! This is so cool that jo has approved this..I have always thought they need to just add some more to the movies for the detail they lack and maybe this will be a bit of what I was hoping for!!!

You know what? I trust him. I think as long as they get that concept in the film, then it's okay. I was really bummed about them cutting the prime ministers and stuff, but they can easily get it in with this little scene. I think that they need to explain some things once in a while.

I'm just jazzed we'll see the Burrow again! I love the Weasleys.

I hate it when they do this... take out potentially important scenes to add in their own... It boils my blood to think that anyone who hasn't read the book will have no clue what is transpiring...

Oh well... maybe they can pull this one off and not make it as utterly disappointing as the 5th book was to me.

(I really can not believe that they've removed the Gaunts from the movie though... only to be replaced by such unimportant characters in concern to the storyline)

Default Added scene

I'm not really sure what to think about the addition of this new scene. It has the potential to make Potter fanatics (especially those who have read the books) very annoyed or very happy. I agree with the post further up about it taking away from the scene in the 7th book. Well hopefully it will be a good scene and I know either way I'll love the movie.
