| | | Mira Nair considering directing OotP film? - It seems that she was offered the job! Summary:
A new tidbit of information has been uncovered, possibly proving that Mira Nair HAS been offered the directing job for Harry Potter 5. Article: Mira Nair considering directing OotP film
Earlier in the week, we reported here at SS that sources were reporting that Mira Nair had been asked to direct OotP. It now seems that she might have actually been asked - which seems highly odd as we've heard no word as to whether Kloves has decided to script OotP yet. Of course, there is the possibility that it's already scripted, but then we've heard no news on the possibility of a script for OotP in the works, either.
The Times of India has quotes from the director saying she read the book over the weekend and is "still deciding": Quote: I never let fame go to my head: "I'm getting offers to direct Harry Potter: The Order Of The Phoenix. I read it over the weekend. I'm still deciding... I'm not letting all this go to my head. I'm grounded. I practise detachment, it helps me keep my balance." I'm a Dilliwalli, only an asana gets me on my head! My son Zoharan's excited. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies with him."* Quote: When Reese called to meet me, he (her son) made me watch Legally Blonde; now the Harry Potter offer has him excited."* This does seem pretty solid, I doubt a director would say this if it wasn't true. However, the studios will have offered/interviewed MANY directors and as normal are probably going to be considering a few before actually giving the job to someone. There's a good chance she might not get the job at all - when Prisoner of Azkaban needed a director, Kenneth Branagh was tipped to get the job and seemed to have it but then it was given to Alfonso Cuaron.
So this is NOT definite - even moreso because we have no confirmation that, at this time, this information is still true.
Mira has just directed Vanity Fair which features Robert Pattinson, the actor who is playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

| Yeah! First to post!!!!
It would be great if she was to direct it. A woman would finally direct a Harry Potter movie. I think i once read an article in a magasine about her. I think it did mention that she was asked to direct it. Maybe she could make it the best Harry Potter movie. |

I agree, I think a woman director would make things interesting. I bet she would do a smashing job but OotP is the largest book so it will probably be the most difficult to direct in that sense. :sorcerer:

I agree with you all, it could make a nice change, it's a new angle to try anyway.
Does anyone know what other films she has directed? I don't think I have heard of her before.

Cool, an Indian woman might be directing the 5th!
That's like two in one! As, I'm Indian and a girl!
I have a friend with the last name Nair, maybe they're related, because from what I can recall, that isn't a very popular Indian last name....

Vanity Fair (2004) <-- with Reese Witherspoon - its not out yet...

i've never seen her movies so i don't know what's like as a director but did like the setting for the first 2, it seemed to bring Hogwarts to life. but i didn't like the new setting for PoA that much, it was completly different but Rowling's Hoqwarts doesn't change so i don't think the movie should either. Although i noticed they still used the same defence against the dark arts classroom from cos!

It would be really cool if Mira Nair directed OOTP. I feel she'd do a really good job.
She's Indian and she's also from Kerala - a South-Indian state. 'Nair' is one of the most common last names in Kerala.

| Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs i totaly hope she dosent do it.
i mean for a start yes it owuld be nice for a new and unheard of really director to do OOTp
but also she isnt experenced i mean she hasnt done a big budget film and OOTP is going to be.
it is an importand book and an important story.
i just dont think that she will be good for it.
i just think that someone better/more experenced should do it like err someone like tim burton would be great

Hogwarts RPG Name: Marcella Riddle Graduated | Kaplinski Rival Sorting Hat Machine Quote: Originally posted by Ziphius@Aug 30 2004, 04:32 PM i've never seen her movies so i don't know what's like as a director but did like the setting for the first 2, it seemed to bring Hogwarts to life. but i didn't like the new setting for PoA that much, it was completly different but Rowling's Hoqwarts doesn't change so i don't think the movie should either. Although i noticed they still used the same defence against the dark arts classroom from cos! Actually you're wrong. PoA Hogwarts was set in Scotland which was the correct way around. Columbus set it in English countryside which was very wrong and false to the true HP world.
I have to disagree - I don't think she'd be good. Like Karen said, she hasn't got the experience. Alfonso Cuaron would be far more suited - PoA and OotP link in so many ways and he has said he wants to come back if the cast remains the same.
Hogwarts DOES change too. Dumbledore even said in one of the books that he found a room but the next day, it was gone. The staircases move and so must other areas of the school. It's a magical building that seems to sometimes have a mind of its own. After all we see different bits of it all the time - Harry even in the books hasn't seen the whole of Hogwarts as we now know the school also has a graveyard.
Rowling approves everything in the films and if the look of Hogwarts was not what she expected she'd demand it be changed as it's such an important element.

^ I don't think she would be the best for this either. HP needs a director that can handle that type of world-wide poularity. I think it would be awesome to have a woman's directive point of view, but I wouldn't want someone to come in and compromise all that has been built up so far...even if some of it isn't what it should be... :/
