| | | Mike Newell talks 'Goblet of Fire'
A new interview with Mike Newell has emerged. In the article he talks about ' Goblet of Fire' and how it differs to the other Potter films. He also speaks about J.K.Rowling and how she approaches the characters. Quote:
"This one is bound to be a bit different, because I'm English and the others weren't," Newell states flatly. "Whether anyone will notice, I don't know, but I hope it has a kind of authenticity. And it's a little darker than the others, because these kids are growing up, and they have to face stuff that they haven't had to before. But the real thing about it is that it's a terrific adventure story and a really good thriller."
Quote:
"Jo Rowling is very, very interested in what happens to these people when they hit puberty," Newell observes. "So you've got to take it on, and of course it's painful, as we all remember it. But it's also terribly funny as well."
Quote:
"It's ludicrous, but I kept on wanting it to be real," Newell admits. "I wanted a real dragon, and I wanted the boy to really be able to swim underwater for an hour, and so forth. If it looked fantastical, I wasn't really interested in it. Well, of course, there aren't dragons. But if there were, I hope that the dragon would look and behave the way that we've got it."

w00t! First to Post!
Cool...I think it's that push for realism that is going to make this movie great! Judging by everything we've seen the effects look great...(I'm just going to overlook Sirius in the fire, or wood rather)

I thought the fire looked pretty cool. But the effects are really cool in this one from what we've seen. Hope it's all like that..

you mean that wasnt a real dragon!
I think all the special effects look greeat so far, especially the tri wizard tournaments. The only thing we havent really seen so far is stuff from the 3rd task.

if the movie is as good as the trailer, then i bet it rocks! and i think it's really cool that he's english, because the booksa are english and hogwarts is english, so he can provide a better and more realistic look to it (could i make myself clear? hmm..)
i hope he's better than the other directors!

Cool! I find it interesting he wanted it to look real. That shows a good director, imo- him not wanting all this CGI crap unless neccessary.... I trust him, I think. Plus, he's British, and that *should* make it more authentic... thanks for the info.

It sounds he is a perfectionist. And if he is, that means the movie will be great. |

I'm really looking forward to seeing the English touch he is bringing to the movie and I appreciate his desire for realism. Very cool.

I love the way he talks so longingly of REALLY wanting al the elements from the book to be real! He talks about it like a child and thats wonderful to see. You want a director like him who wants it to look real and terrifying twice as much as the potter fanatic does! HES FANTASTIC!! I can tell from the way he was talking about it in that interview that hes put everything into the movie.
We're all going to be in for a treat!!! Yay!

| I like that Mike wanted it to be real. I'm sure a lot of us would think it'd be cool if it were real. From what we've all seen of the film so far it seems very authentic-looking and I think he captured the book very well. Can't wait to see the entire thing though!

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

| He's right. It's about time there's an English Director! This whole series is from a distinctly British viewpoint. All the cast are either British or the right nationality like Viktor. This whole series would have benefited from all British directors as well.

I think Newell got to every point he got to in the interview, even by the short clips and the trailer.
