| | | Mike Newell interview in The Telegraph The Telegraph have a new interview with Mike Newell in which he talks about ' Goblet of Fire', the series in general and the young cast. Quote:
"I think it's darker, and crueller. But you can't keep making these films for little kids. It's clear that JK Rowling is now not writing for little kids. She's moved on up, and you'd better do the same."
Quote:
"They [the cast] live a curious existence," says Newell, almost in a whisper. "But they all have good parents, and they manage to keep a certain distance between their real lives and their on-screen lives. They have a lively sense of the ridiculous, especially Dan. He knows it's weird to have Japanese girls lying down in the road in front of his car, so he can stop, get out and propose marriage to them. Which has happened.
"They're all strong characters, too. You might think Rupert was rather dozy, but he's a glorious comic. He'll be a name."
All three, Newell thinks, have an ability to separate themselves from the wilder excesses of celebrity. "Emma goes back to school and ordinary life, whereas Rupert's given up on school and makes other films. So he does it that way."

That thing about the Japanese girls is real creepy.
Rupert has totally given up on school to be an actor... I don't believe it... I thought that he was a pretty sensible guy... It sounds fun but how can a person just throw their life away like that... Do I still like him now? I just don't know anymore. *Runs to her room to call her friend Marisa to spill out her confusing life and tormented teenage soul* [preteen anyway]
Rock on Em!

'Given up' is the wrong way to put it.
In the UK COMPULSORY education ends at 16. A Levels (that's what you do at 16+) are designed for those with the intention of going to University. In his field, exams won't help him further his career, experience will. I hate the way Rupert is portrayed negatively in regards to school. A LOT of people choose to leave 16, I'd say nearly half actually. It's not uncommon or unheard of it and it certainly isn't always bad. School/studying isn't for everyone and luckily, we have a lot more choice/control in this country when it comes to making decisions about our education.

It really is. It would be the equivelint of me going to persue an acting career after 18. I've finished school, and I want to follow my dreams. That's Rupert has done. I don't see why it should ever be thought of negatively or frowned upon. Not everyone finds their calling at such a young age... he's really lucky to have found what he wants to do in life! It just looks bad because Dan has decided to further his education, as Emma most likely will...

I always thought that Rupert was a great comediant, and his face helps a lot, he has this weird goofy face that just looking at him makes you laugh..sadly he won't continue his education, but is his choice, Dan said that he will do 2 years of school but not sure if he is going to go to a University, I guess making movie will ultimately determine what he will do, and also he won't have the time to do movies and university at the same time.
Emma was looking for schools here in LA (I have my insides about it) but I am not sure is she will ever move here to the States. Quote:

I still want to know about these Japanese girls!!

Yeah, I wish that people would stop classifying Harry Potter as a "children's book."

Hi! I don't see what the big deal is. I can name you one hundred actors and performers who didn't pursure school. It doesn't mean they are stupid. You can still learn things and not be in school full time. I graduated, and I can't remember a darn thing in school. My best friend did not graduate and she is smarter than me. That should not be an issue. God, in my opinion has a path set for everybody. Rupert is supposed to entertain, it is a God given talent! Emma may like acting, but maybe there are other things for her that may be better. She hasn't done anything spectaular with her acting in my opinion. I can look at her on the big screen and say, "I could have done that." Don't mean to step on any toes, just my little two cents!

HP is definitely not childrens book. And mike said this movie is Darker and crueller.I like him saying that.
The one he said abt dan is soo silly. Quote:

I rather imagined rupert sleeping all the time haha well everyone knows rupert doing a great job.
Emma and Dan are brilliant in this movie.

If rupert wants to he can always do his alevels later...there's no need to do them now whilst his career is taking off.

That was a nice interview. I liked what he said about Rupert. Yes he is a glorious comic and he'll be a name for sure. I agree with what Mike Newell said about Harry Potter getting darker. Honestly, Harry Potter gets darker in every book. I think as fans we have to grow up just as Harry's character is.
