| | | Mike, Dan and Brendan discuss 'Goblet of Fire' MSNBC has posted an article featuring GOF director, Mike Newell, in which he talks about some of the challenges he faced bringing GOF to life on the screen and his experiences in English boarding school. Also included are interviews with Daniel Radcliffe and Brendan Gleeson. Quote:
“It wasn’t possible for them to get that right. They’d never been to such a school,” Newell said. “English schools are very, very eccentric. They’re not like any other. I know they’ve changed now, but when I was in school in the ’50s, I was beaten with a cane, a rattan cane, as thick as my little finger.
Quote:
...but they also were very funny and anarchic places. I wanted to get the sense of the school as a character, having a character, so that the kind of crazinesses that she, Jo (Rowling) is so good at, I wanted to find an organization into which that kind of stuff could fit and bring the two things together. Bring the individuals and the institution together. So I think that’s something I could bring.
Quote:
“He talked about it having a central spine with these little offshoots, I guess you’d call them nerve-endings, coming off it,” Radcliffe said. “These little other strands that he kept reiterating, in which every scene had to push that central spine.”
The entire article may be read here.

Co-star Brendan Gleeson — who plays Hogwarts’ new defense-against-the-black-arts teacher, Mad-Eye Moody
AND I thought it was dark arts...haha Minor things, I know, but I just felt like pointing them out just because I can.
I'm quite excited to see this scene with Snape hitting Ron and Harry. I think I'll like it.
That is a lovely picture of Mike, don't you think?

There are but the first 2 were made by the same person, hence why the 3 aren;t grouped together. The paragraph does go on to mention the 3rd.

Mike Newell seems like a young guy in a older guys body!....well at least to me,lol.
Especially after he said that he rolled around on the floor with one of the twins.
But really,I think they've found the person who should direct all the others.

Brendan Gleeson is the man.
I agree....i think Mike Newell certainly captured the feel of what Harry Potter movies should look like!
