| | | Mary GrandPré talks Films and Book 7
The Bradenton Herald has a new interview with Mary GrandPré in which she discusses the process of creating the artwork for Harry Potter. She also comments on the movies in regards to visuals and briefly comments on book 7. Quote:
When GrandPré receives a Rowling manuscript from Scholastic, she reads the book carefully and highlights scenes that "might make a good cover."
"I am looking for a scene that shows excitement, that shows Harry and that has an intriguing atmosphere," she said. She reads for detail. Descriptions of characters and scenes are critical.
"I have to be accurate," she said. "Kids will point it out if I make a mistake. They don't miss anything."
Quote:
GrandPré avoids going to the Harry Potter movies when they're released.
"I don't want to be influenced by the visuals," she said. "The books are more intimate. The first time I saw Harry on a movie poster, I wanted to mess up his hair."
Quote:
"I don't want to be a celebrity. I am an illustrator who happens to work on books that are very popular," she said. "When I'm working on Harry, I'm not doing my other work. It's a trade-off. It has opened some doors."
Quote:
"The Potter phenomenon has taken over parts of my career and it's sometimes frustrating," she said. "It will be kind of like getting a kid off to college and out of the house when he's 18. I'll miss him in a good way."

Nice interview! I think she does a very nice job on the illustrations. I'm only slightly jealous that she gets to read the books first, as I can't draw for beans.

i think it will be so hard for us potter fans when the 7th book is done. i will miss harry so much and i wont be able to say after i read harry potter oh he will be back because he won't. i think that is the hardest for me and, the fact that i wont hear another sentence starting of with harry, ron, and hermione again. i just figure though take your time jo no need to rush.
